I am testing PL9 and I don’t understand how the masks work in the local adjustments., especially the ‘show masks’ option. I am on a Mac.
I can mask something, and then when I want to do some edits, I would like to switch between hiding and showing the masks with the shift + M shortcut, as indicated in the help menu. But it does not do anything. I can select the parent mask in the right panel, or any sub mask, nothing happens. On the bottom of the screen the option ‘show masks’ is greyed out.
I then created a second parent mask, and again, I cannot hide the mask. Then I don’t know what I did, but suddenly I could show and hide the first mask! So it seems to be working somehow, but I don’t understand how?
Also if I click on the empty space below the masks on the right panel, I have no mask selected, but there is still that masks panel on the button of the screen active. And then ‘show masks’ is not greyed out! But when I click it, nothing happens obviously, as no mask is selected, so I don’t understand which one was I supposed to hide or show in this case.
I must be missing something or is this just buggy?
Thanks, the M shortcut does not seem to exist on a Mac, only shift + M. When i hover on the image, it will start suggesting me new masks if the AI mask tool in selected, on top of my existing mask.
But I believe I figured it out now. I can only hide the masks once I have made an adjustment in the local parameters, e.g if I change the exposure, then the ‘show masks’ button becomes selectable. If I create a mask and do not do any adjustment, then it’s impossible to hide it.
Well, it works like that, maybe I can get used to it, I find it not very intuitive.

Yes, that’s really irritating …
and one of the reasons I’d like the return of a prominent button in the top bar indicating tLA tools are selected (and to deselect with a simple click without searching, which tool I need to hit … esp. when they slipped out of sight).
