Can't sort by rank in PL9

Hello folks

I just installed PL9 and sorting the pics by rank doesn’t work. Am I the only one with this issue? Is there a fix?

With PL9.9.1/Win11 it works as expected, if Virtual Copies are not used. Virtual Copies are sorted by their Master Copy rating, presumably to keep VCs near their “masters”.
Are you on Mac?

I systematically use virtual copies on all my pics. Sorting has always worked since Optics Pro whether or not the different master/copies of a pic have different ratings. I made tests: sorting works only if the master and CV have the same rank. Otherwise it’s erratic. So it works no more. That’s progress I guess.

I am on a Mac.

Just tried removing VC from the stack and it seems it works as you want. So it’s all about automatic stacking for VCs. I don’t see any option to disable this feature.

EDIT:
There are several ways for DxO to fix this, e.g.:

• Provide and an option in Preferences not to stack automatically virtual copies
• Add an option in Image–>Stacking like ‘Unstack all Virtual copies at the current location’
• Add a filter to select virtual copies.

Currently you have to select virtual copies manually and use Image–>Stacking–>Remove from stack. I don’t see any keybaord shortcut on Windows to make it faster.

This is a disaster for me. Applying different ratings is an essential part of my workflow for selecting the keepers, the exports and so on. I’ll have to reconsider an important part of the way I select my pics.

Is it possible to know the rationale of this change? I suppose it’s to keep the masters and their VC together. What for? It used to be straightforward: you could apply ratings, whether master or VC and then sort have them ordered according to the number of stars.

Image stacking was introduced in PL9 to group images for whatever reason the user wants. One more “victim” was removal of trash can from the thumbnails. Personally I don’t use this feature and prefer to use color labels for grouping, although I get short of colors sometimes (e.g. when grouping musicians for final selection). However, many people found stacking very useful for their workflow. I think there were several topics in this forum related to stacking, with people expressing very different views.

You can make a formal feature request to DxO and press them to add user controlled options for stacking operation modes. Your request looks perfectly valid.

I think the new image stacking feature in PL9 is a good thing. Unfortunately, it hinders my individual workflow. It’s annoying to have to turn off stacking in every folder after every change. Is there an option, perhaps in the preferences, to turn off stacking altogether? See Disable image stacking

The new Stacking feature is something I have been waiting for a long time. Still I would like to see a few additions: It would be efficient to be able to set the stacking mode in the Settings, so that a folder show stacking without interference. Although I can stack an original file with all developed version by setting the time difference to zero, I would like to have the option to select stacking by file extension. I didn’t find “image stacking” in the user guide. In the Help menu: “Result not found”. I finally found it by right-clicking on a pic. It’s absolutely useless for me:

• It creates a physical stack so you can see only the one that’s on top. Then you can “Expand Stack”. These are extremely cumbersome maneuvers. With the ranks you just need to hit the number keys in the blink of an eye.

• You can’t add photos to an existing stack.

• You can remove one photo at time from a stack but you can’t choose which one.

Totally useless for me.

And for many others too (me included) - AND, as noted above, it “breaks” the ability to sort by Virtual Copy number … Grrrrr !!!
