Auto-adjustments when first loading - cannot seem to deactivate that

Hi there
disclaimer, I am a PL newbie, on a test version (and pretty impressed by my first results).

Quick one: Is it possible that I cannot turn off the automatic processing when first clicking on an image (e.g. nikon z raw, same for fuji raw) in the PL browser? During my first installation I had turned that automatic preset adjustment (recommended) on - but as I am not sure if I want that going forward (e.g. I am not sure I like the WB decisions and I see very very red lips on portraits). I swiched it off in the settings, but still quite heavy adjustments are being made when clicking on an image in the PL browser so that it loads into the large image window. Of course I tried this some times and I also closed PL and restarted Win 11. (I am on PL 8.1.0, activated test period)
Is there possibly a difference between “preset” and these initial “best guess adjustments” by PL?

BTW: is there some kind of Quick Question-Quick Answer thread for newbies like for this case?

thank you

Unfortunately, the “Standard” preset, which is used by default, can be a bit heavy handed.

You need to disable all corrections and presets for newly discovered files.

I use Optical Corrections Only for RAW files and No Corrections for RGB files.

But, be warned that, after changing these settings, you will have to move all the files that you have looked at so far to a copy folder, delete all the DOPs and restart PL in that new folder. Finally, delete the original folder and rename your copy to the original folder name. This makes sure the database gets updated.

thank you, Joanna. I had changed the settings already before like described by you. But the last comment (quoted here) did the trick. As I just started I went the harsh way deleting the database
(as I am anyway just clicking aroung in my first days and had nothing I needed to keep). I thnk I did not get that the preset is already applied when selecting a folder. I was maybe confused by the fact that PL appears to do that after browsing through the folder and selecting an image (maybe it®s my system being not the super fastest) as it for a second shows the unprocessed image and then SEEMS to apply a preset. In fact that apparently is already done at that stage.
Anyway, problem solved. Thank you.

What I wonder though is: why cannot I reset this step via the reset button? Although a preset was applied that button is grayed out and does not let me go back to square one. (I guess, have not tested, that I could do that by seleting a “corrections only” preset. That would be a per image “reset” and not for correcting a bulk mistake like I did. ) Still a lot to learn

It’s not showing the UNprocessed image, it’s showing the JPEG that’s embedded in the RAW file. It then seems to apply a preset because even with a default of ‘no corrections’ PL has to do some processing in order to visualise the RAW data.

I did the same as you when I had the same problem. If you are using sidecar files you don’t lose much by deleting the database (maybe projects and keywords IIRC). I found that using ‘neutral colours’ instead of standard preset was much better - standard seems to super saturate, especially reds. Hope you are enjoying PL - I’m much preferring it.

Here is a partial preset I created, that only changes the optical corrections.

Optical Corrections only.preset (1,4 Ko)

unlike the DxO one, which resets all sorts of other adjustments as well.
