I currently have PL5 elite, and I’d like to upgrade to PL9 - I’ve actually just ordered a new PC for (partly) this purpose, but order an RTX 5060 Ti before I saw the driver issue with *60 models.
I’m wondering if’ it’s worth upgrading now with the black Friday deal or wait for DxO to resolve the performance issues/crashes (or potentially PL10)?
Opinions would be appreciated. BTW, I’m not a heavy PL user, just occasional hobby photos.
It’s just an hour ago I installed a new RTX 5060 TI 16GB. (It’s BlackFriday and I got a resonable offer…) So far everything seems to work perfectly. I have so far developed aprox. 10 photos with DeepPrime XD with different AI masks, also a predefined one, and it’s a great improvment compared to my old RTX 2060 with 6GB.
You might like to consider that, for the full feature set, you really need FilmPack and ViewPoint integrated into PhotoLab and that, outside BF, the bundle of all three can be considerably cheaper - usually, the equivalent of FilmPack or ViewPoint for only €$£10
Take the individual price of each product and add them up.
PhotoLab normal full price €239,99
FilmPack normal full price €139,99
ViewPoint normal full price €109,99
Total €489,97
I don’t know the exact bundle price now, but it used to be around €350ish. Take this off the individual prices and you end up with slightly less than €150, which is approximately the price for FilmPack
As someone who was perfectly happy with PL 5 (until it ceased to work with my upgraded MacOS Sinoma), I wouldn’t be in a hurry to upgrade unless you desperately want some of the new features. Nor are the 20% BL savings really enough to factor in the balance IMO.
It’s a shame you can’t upgrade to PL 7. As someone who upgraded from PL7 to 9, certainly at the moment I would leave well alone. The AI mask is so far from the finished article that…… it’s not in the same zip code.
The DP for X-Trans is very good, a bit better than PL 7, other than that…………………. just small things, that might or might not aid your workflow.
I would also add that the colours are rendering differently. If I process two identical photos using the same adjustments, just basic stuff, the end results look different. Not necessarily worse, just slightly different.
