Sharpness optimisation not working on the Nikon D700 + 24-70 f/2.8

It seems that “lens sharpness optimization” isn’t working with the Nikon D700 + AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 ED combination. The “intensity” slider doesn’t make any difference; the photo is blurry.
Vignetting, aberration and distortion correction work without any issues. Interestingly, the same lens, when paired with the D750, works perfectly. It’s probably some kind of bug…

I don’t have PR but it’s similar here with PhotoLab 9.7.

Just checked a dozen of photos taken with the same camera/lens (non-VR version) and indeed applying LSO does not seem to make any visible difference (btw, some photos get a bit sharper with XD3, even at low ISO). I wouldn’t call the images blurry, though. Taken mostly at f/5.6-7.1, @24mm and @55mm inspected.

On the other hand, LSO correction is quite visible on photos made with physically the same lens on D4. It’s 16mpx D4 vs 12mpx of D700, too small difference for such perception change, it seems.

EDIT: Checked also old AF-S VR 70-300/4.5-5.6G IF-ED with D700 – no such issue as with 24-70/D700. The difference between LSO enabled/disabled at 300mm is usually huge in this case. This lens was quite soft at 300mm and gained a new life with PhotoLab.
