Pureraw5 for xtrans when XD2 never was finished for pureraw4?

That seems very sneaky. Fuji users who specifically bought pureraw4 with the advertisement that xd2 for xtrans would be coming should be given pureraw5 for free or a substantial discount.

It’s about time! Don’t know if I’ll upgrade as LRC’s denoise is adequate for my needs (I’m not a pro)

Indeed, DxO seems to have shifted gears without a clutch. They say here that “DeepPRIME XD2s will support Fujifilm X-Trans files in the near future.”

but the PureRAW 5 advertisement introduces DeepPRIME XD3 Beta for X-Trans while apparently leaving both DeepPRIME XD2S and the new DeepPRIME 3 without X-Trans support.

It isn’t entirely clear that DxO has broken their word. But it looks likely.

If they put XD2s into PR4, then all is well (sort of). If not, I think Fuji-shooting owners of PR4 have a very reasonable case for no charge upgrade to PR5

While I understand your point of view, getting a no charge upgrade to PureRAW 5 will never happen for a very simple reason. Any current owner of PureRAW 4, whether they are a Fuji X-trans shooter or not, could claim to be in order to get a free upgrade.

If there was a foolproof way of proving it, perhaps DxO would consider it, But, there is not. I have never been a Fuji shooter but I have dozens of raw and processed x-Trans files on my computer. Even posting an image of yourself holding a Fuji body means nothing. You could be holding someone else’s camera, or you could have sold the camera in the photo years earlier, and finally there would not be any proof that the photo is actually of of you.

time to get used to it if you use DxO products. Complete lack of technical support when you need it is standard.

No surprise. Those who had a DPL 7 license and have purchased a PR4 license in the hope of getting access to the XD2/s technology (because they trusted DxO’s promise) have been cheated. Don’t expect any apologies. Don’t expect any update of DPL 8 incorporating XD3. Don’t expect anything fair.

The marketing policy of DxO is deliberately and systematically provocative. This has been widely commented but they obviously don’t care. On the long term, this is a very bad choice. They remind me IBM’s arrogance when they were convinced that they had no concurrent company. You can’t do without us, they said (I know this, I was an IBM employee at that time). We know how the story ended. Constantly disappointing loyal customers is a bad strategy. Customers don’t like being “forced” to buy licenses simply because DxO has implemented an unfair marketing strategy that looks like a multiple-entry trap. It’s not necessarily a question of pricing alone. It’s also (and primarily) a question of customer respect. I’m willing to pay but I’m not a cash cow. And once again, I raise the question of an all-in-one product that would rid us from this totally archaic marketing strategy.

Yes, they have today very interesting and unique technologies and we are all interested in them. However, they should not take for granted that this position will last. The software technology is evolving faster and faster each day. When the moment arrives that other companies begin to propose similar performances, having loyal customers will be a key point. They don’t seem to understand this.

Anyway, we have all learned the lesson : don’t trust any promise made by DxO and never expect an apology when promises are broken.

Thank you for this great contribution, it says it all and there is no better way to describe it.
If C1 or another competitor succeeds in implementing adequate noise reduction, I will leave DxO.

Someone received an email from DxO stating that :

"DeepPRIME 3 has been trained on a dataset ten times larger than its predecessor and leverages our exclusive database of over 100,000 DxO Modules, ensuring an unprecedented level of image quality. Additionally, we are unveiling a technology preview of DeepPRIME XD3 X-Trans (beta), bringing our most advanced noise reduction technology to X-Trans sensors for the first time.

Both innovations will be available in the upcoming DxO PureRAW 5 and will soon be integrated into DxO PhotoLab as a free upgrade."

I’d be very happy to apologize for my statement. But well, it’s again another promise.

I understand the plight of loyal and long-suffering Fuji-shooters. Maybe (just) DxO will make things right. But, I don’t understand your point regarding purchasers of both PR and PL. There are some interesting batch processing options in PR, but other than that I wonder why anyone would buy both. So far at least, new features showing up in springtime PR have eventually appeared in PL, on way or another.

In my environment, I know many people who still had a recent version of PL but who were planning to quit and use only DPR. I was also in the mood for that. XD1 is generating too much artefacts. Experiments made by me and my fellow photographers demonstrated that XD2/s fixed this, at least for non X-Trans sensors. So, I was eagerly awaiting the X-Trans compatible implementation of XD2/s that they promised to be available “very soon”. That was almost one year ago.

So, I’ve lost faith and confidence. Let’s see what will be actually delivered in April
But I will not pay for a PR update only including a beta version of XD3 X-Trans.

Yes, some people have decided they’d rather use other software than PhotoLab, but still want DxO’s denoising and sharpening - so they buy PureRAW and use that to create linear DNGs for use in their other software. But there is a reason some people buy both PureRAW and PhotoLab: early access to new tech. PureRAW is being released in April. PhotoLab in September-October. Some forum members were so interested in DeepPRIME XD2 that they bought PureRAW 4. Then XD2s came out - but still no X-Trans support, except that DxO promised in writing that it would eventually be added to XD2s. That promise appears to not be coming true.

Hmm, on their home page, DxO are pushing pre-orders for PR5 and when you click through to ‘learn more’ you read:

Arriving officially on April 15

but even then X-Trans support will only be a Beta product:

The new DeepPRIME XD3 X-Trans Beta

I’m not in the market for PR5 but if I was I’d be very cautious about parting with my money right now. Pushing pre-orders for a beta product seven weeks ahead of the launch date smacks of a company desperate for a cash injection.

Buyer beware!
