PL9 can't type in export path anymore

I just upgraded PhotoLab 7 to 9 and encountered a serious annoyance. It’s no longer possible to type into the Path box in the Export to Disk dialog. Since I export to a path based on the date, I am used to just backspacing a number and typing in a different one, which used to create that directory for me. Now I have to go through no less than 7 clicks to create and select the folder in the Windows Select Folder dialog.

Not a good first impression. Please bring back this functionality!

I have done two reports to support, the second as they just marked the first as solved. You need to do a bug report to support as they ignore this user fourm

And what if you select the folder a level above your intended folder and than use the sub folder path to write your date named folders to the depth of your choosing?

Just tried that - doesn’t work for me. The OP is correct in that there seems no way to make the output path field editable.

Thanks.
A windows specific bug then.

Originally this is how PL worked but they were persuaded to change that and make the output path editable. Maybe the old coding was never removed and has come back or in madness they have deliberately went back to the no editable output path,

That’s a significant retrograde step regarding usability. I hope it gets corrected.

Supprt got back anf rather than them just try amending the export psth they wanted a video of me not bring able to! They aldo wanted mecto run the diagnostics application
To my mind what a waste of time why not just try it

Is it possible they were unable to recreate the issue and wanted to see exactly the steps you used when it happened?

Mark

I have the same issue which is a real showstopper as I use relative paths for exports!

Keath have you got onto them as I see this as a clasic delaying doing any thing

Its been very easy for many here to test and find you can’t change the path anyore. They are sending out standard replys with out actually testing something. Not very good suporting and a waste of everything when a test is so simple

Well when support doesn’t get back, they suck.
And when they get back, they suck.
And when they ask for additional information and invest time in identifying the problem, they suck.

It might actually be that their config or platform installation do not let them recreate the problem you experienced.

Or they are simply following a grit instructions to be able to forward the information down the food chain to the devs to look at.

As a workaround

Would it work to type into the “Subfolder” entry-box as follows;

  • .\{Today's Date}” … to export into a folder beneath the source-image folder

OR

  • ..\{Today's Date}” … to export into a folder at same level as source-image folder

??

Regretsbly you cant type into it

@John7 Sorry I wrote this some time ago and didn’t post it.

It seems like they don’t just ignore the forum but support requests as well!?

The response was probably “works as coded/intended” but that doesn’t cover this scenario and attempting to change the directory title doesn’t work either

  1. The Path only appears to offer selection and
  2. The Subfolder field only offers data entry

For @jstanley0’s scenario it means

  1. Going to the previous output destination using the selection and copying that directory name
  2. Use the 'New Folder option on the selection screen to create a new folder and paste the previous file name and then
  3. Amend the file name to insert the new date before saving it back to create the desired file name.

@John7 Certainly the PL8 way is much simpler.

It would not be difficult to replicate the issue unless they have a completely different version installed and I doubt that.

Yes, I tried reporting the problem I discussed in this thread and this is just what I got in reply …

Thank you very much for contacting us and for sharing your concerns. I fully understand the importance for you to get a quick resolution and I apologise for the inconvenience this situation may have caused.

I noted that you mentioned a discussion thread on the forum in your last message. Although we regularly consult the feedback published on the forum, please note that this e-mail support channel is a separate communication channel, where each point must be documented. So that we can provide a precise and complete follow-up, we therefore ask you to detail your problems directly in this email thread.

In order to better understand the situation, could you please:

Provide a video recording of your screen showing the problem from start to finish.

Upload this video and any sample files concerned on https://upload.dxo.com. Please indicate your ticket number #586970 in the description field so that we can link the files to your request.

Upon receipt of these elements, we will be able to analyse your case in detail and provide you with the most appropriate assistance.

Thank you again for your cooperation and patience. We remain at your disposal and will continue the investigation as soon as you return.

So, even though I have outlined all steps in messages which include screenshots inline to clarify which comments refer to which screenshots, apparently, I am now expected to recreate those posts as a video!!! Something I am not willing, or even capable of doing.

If this were a beta test, I would get recompense for all this work, in the form of complimentary product, but it is not a beta and I have paid the full upgrade price.

The only other option @platypus suggested was to annotate the screenshots themselves. But, once again that involves a lot of effort, just to replicate all the work I have already done in writing here to see if I wasn’t barking up a wrong tree before submitting an erroneous report.

Are DxO really saying that they can’t even be bothered to read one thread in the forums?

Maybe I’ll just have to stay with PL8 and recommend to all my followers that they also ignore this version?

I did the video and they have got back about two reports one (nothing to do with exporting) they say will be passed to the developers (along with reinstalling PL9 (on 2 devices the same problem) and ensuing I have the latest Video drivers!).

But on the inability to edit the export path “In PhotoLab 9, the way export paths work has indeed changed compared to earlier versions”. I am unclear if this was just agreement it had changed or that this is now how its to work (or not). But as said no mention of this being sent to the developers…
I think as many others who are effected by this should post a support ticket to get them to change it back again.

John,
you can point @DxO_Support-Team to this post, which contains all necessary screenshots.

It was this poor support where the very valuable DXO staff covering this forms were so helpful about and undoubtedly why they had to go. Many times support said there was no problem and they reproduced the problems themselves and got onto support to deal with it. As far as I remember having an editable export path was one of those things.
