PhotoLab 9 crash

Using Windows 11 on a Dell Inspiron 16 7620 2 in 1. Processor 12th Gen Intel(R). Core i7-1260P. Graphics Intel Iris Xe 128MB. RAM 16GB.

AI masks will not work. Consistently get an error message below.
“Internal Error (Correction Failed on the Execute stage)”

Welcome to the DxO USER Forum, Bill.

You will need a decent, recent GPU to enable AI masking (and some of the advanced NR algorithms) … Your in-built Intel Graphics card is not up to the task.

I was afraid that might be the case. However, my laptop runs all the Adobe programs just fine, along with On1, so it’s a shame DXO’s won’t work on it.

They actually are working on it. It’s a priority for them. It’s even mentioned in the release notes.
PhotoLab 9 has two to three times as many new and upgraded features compared to any previous version since PhotoLab 1. There was bound to be bugs and performance issues. Local adjustments, as just one example, was completely reworked with greatly expanded functionality.

Similar experience, Photolab crashes when I use AI masks.
I have notebook with Intel i5-12500H and 16gb ram.

Frankly, this shouldn’t be the case. I can run Lightroom AI detection in its mobile app on my phone, and that was released in 2022.

Hopefully as @mwsilvers notes they’re aware that this is a bug and not some weird design limitation.

Crashes and “Internal Error” messages are always bugs. Even if it was true that your GPU isn’t supported, there should be a proper message saying that instead of crashing.

In the next few updates it will likely either start working (even if with bad performance) or display a message saying that it isn’t supported.

I believe it’s a bug. The first time I tried using AI masking, it worked, although it didn’t fully detect by subject (a person).

It now seems to not work but… it did, and it didn’t take forever to perform the masking, so clearly it can!

I have a RTX 3070 in my laptop and get the same thing,
I on the trial version because those new masking options look very promising.
Hopefully it’s a bug.

PL9 Release notes state that there is a known issue with latest NVidia drivers (580.x) and advise using older drivers until the problem is fixed (soon, they promise). They specifically mention issues with AI masking.

Perhaps there is a similar or connected issue with Intel GPUs as well.

Rolling back de driver on my GPU does fix the issue of the AI masking.

However I did discover another problem.
I cant export my images to jpeg whenever I use Deepprime XD3 X-trans, I get an “internal error” and a red exclamation mark.

I do hope they are more forthcoming about fixes thsn they normally are. I took my driver back to 577 and one program my wife uses isnt happy about it.

Just checked… no problem here ( except that I was too quick to “launch” a second export from the same file right after  ).

Good to hear that rolling back the driver works, but it shouldn’t have to come to that, nor is it a long term fix!

I took my driver back and still am getting Internal errer (Correction failed on the Execute stage) It really isn’t really ready for release with such big problems
But we get this buggy mess every year but this is mad rolling drivers back and its still not working

To me, it works the first time, but on the second attempt, nothing seems to happen …
I believe it has something to do with the release of GPU memory. Look at the photo from Task manager. It’s taken 5 minutes after I had finished one export with two AI masks.

To me, it simply looks like PL don’t release GPU memory on my old RTX2060 after use. When I start a new export it tries to do the job in shared GPU memory whish is very slow.
