Is FujiFilm X-Trans support for PureRaw just vaporware now?

where did you get this information from?

In an email from DxO: "DeepPRIME 3 has been trained on a dataset ten times larger than its predecessor and leverages our exclusive database of over 100,000 DxO Modules, ensuring an unprecedented level of image quality. Additionally, we are unveiling a technology preview of DeepPRIME XD3 X-Trans (beta), bringing our most advanced noise reduction technology to X-Trans sensors for the first time.

Both innovations will be available in the upcoming DxO PureRAW 5 and will soon be integrated into DxO PhotoLab as a free upgrade."

Colin,

If I understand this statement correctly, a free upgrade to DPL 8 incorporating a beta version of XD3 for X-Trans will be released “soon” ?

If ‘XD3’ and ‘XD3 X-Trans (beta)’ will be put into PL8 update, what new will remain for PL9?
My guess was that DxO will add ‘XD2s X-Trans’ to PL8 in April, while ‘XD3’ and ‘XD3 X-Trans (beta)’ will be added only to PR5. It would leave way for ‘XD3s’ or something similar to appear in PL9, just like it happened with XD2. But maybe DxO has other plans for the Autumn.

Has anyone else received the above mail from DxO?
I did not.

Yes that’s correct, the DeepPRIME XD3 beta for Fuji X-Trans sensors, will be included in a PL8 update in the near future.

@Wlodek yes I also received this email.:smile:

Thanks for confirmation. Maybe I’m too young PL user to receive such news, or it got stuck in the Internet. Maybe you both were beta testers? I did subscribe to news when creating my DxO account in late 2023. There’s something strange about this announcement anyway.

But why issue a beta and not follow it up… Remember they promised improved X trans support months ago. DxO do talk in riddles I know but I remain hopeful……ever the optimist am I :grinning:

*The following is an extract of the DxO press release dated 27.02.25: *

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - FEBRUARY 27, 2025 – 9AM (TOKYO)
DxO introduces a new generation of its AI-based
denoising DeepPRIME technology for both Bayer and
X-Trans sensors

Both DeepPRIME 3 and DeepPRIME XD3 X-Trans (beta) will be available as part of version 5 of DxO’s unique RAW preprocessing software PureRAW and will also be available in the coming weeks in DxO PhotoLab, the industry-leading full RAW editing solution, as a free upgrade.

Accessible in the upcoming PureRAW 5 as a technology preview, DeepPRIME XD3 X-Trans (beta) will give X-Trans photographers early access to the next generation of noise reduction and detail extraction. Furthermore, DxO will solicit the feedback of the vibrant X-Trans community to finalize this research project and bring X-Trans users the ultimate image quality they deserve. In parallel, DxO continues to work on its DeepPRIME eXtra Detail (XD) architecture roadmap for Bayer sensors, with the goal of covering both major sensor architectures.

PureRAW 5 is also available for pre-order on the DxO website, and you get a copy of PureRAW 4 to keep you busy until the new version arrives!

DXO Support’s reply to my similarly worded support ticket. Don’t plan on XD2 or PureRaw4 getting xtrans support ever. I’m not holding my breath, and if it’s not for lens improvements, I’m highly considering not upgrading.

We understand that our announcement about future X-Trans support may have led to some confusion, and we’d like to take a moment to clarify. While we previously mentioned that our development team was working to extend this technology to Fujifilm X-Trans RAW files, we did not specify which version it would be part of, as the timeline and implementation were still being finalized.

X-Trans sensors have a unique architecture that differs from Bayer sensors, requiring dedicated development for demosaicing and noise reduction. Because of these differences, technologies and features cannot be transferred directly, which affects the noise reduction algorithms available for each sensor type. These distinctions are detailed in our documentation.

As we’ve previously shared, our R&D team is continually refining and improving our algorithms for both sensor types while upholding DxO’s industry-leading quality standards. However, X-Trans cameras represent less than 10% of the market, resulting in a significantly smaller dataset for deep learning. This makes development more complex and outcomes harder to predict. Despite these challenges, we remain fully committed to providing the highest image quality for all photographers.

By upgrading to version 5, you’ll not only gain access to DeepPRIME XD3 for X-Trans sensors but also benefit from all the new features in this release. We invite you to try a free trial of DxO PureRAW 5 when it becomes available around mid-April and experience its latest enhancements.

I couldn’t comment without being unfriendly and sarcastic. Disgusted.

That’s more information than I received from them. I would have nice if they were upfront with that info to begin with. What a joke.

I read this stuff (I shoot X trans) and start to seriously think about going back to Lr. I love PL but I really do struggle with the marketing and pr. It was only a few weeks ago that I took the plunge and cancelled my Adobe subscription - I think that was probably a bad move on my part.

As a Fuji photographer, why should I buy the PR5 version? I have already spent money unnecessarily by buying PR4 without Fuji xd2 support. And now - 80 Euros for a beta version and then possibly wait another 11 months?
With all due respect, Fuji photographers should only buy PR5 after the introduction of the final XD3 Fuji version.
