I have searched for some info on (a) compatibility with monochrome sensors and (b) editing monochrome RAW… and not found much hope or help as yet.
It looks as though DXO will not support monochrome sensors and I really dont want to go back to Adobe for one camera. So what are the alternatives? I would really appreciate the thoughts of the brain trust on the forum. Thanks!
Currently I use PL with SilverFX - this is great but I cannot pass up the opportunity for a native monochrome sensor.
The GR Monochrome has sold out. Orders before 30th January will be fulfilled from mid-Feb onwards. Orders after 30th January wont be fulfilled until much later in the year. Looks like Ricoh completely failed on the old demand planning.
Thanks Wolfgang… yeah my PL/Sfx usage is with my current camera (colour) gear.
Without getting my hands on some DNG files from the GR Monochrome I wont know what my workflow is going to look like … no doubt over the coming weeks and months as more people get their hands on the new GR, things will start to shape up.
There are some feature requests in this forum for PhotoLab to support monochrome-sensor cameras such as from Ricoh and Leica. I suggest adding your votes to those if you want those cameras supported in PhotoLab - or request support more directly through DxO’s camera and lens support website.
So far, DxO’s position is to focus on color science - particularly, their demosaic processes and the incorporation of denoising and some other parts of the rendering pipeline into those. It took them a while to add support for X-Trans, which uses a non-Bayer color filter array. Perhaps in time they will add monochromatic support - but we have to wait and see.
