Filmpack 8 grain unusable because of grid patches!

Hello,

I tested the trial of Filmpack 8 (from within Photolab 9) and unfortunately, it is unusable, grain filters appear like a grid of patches on the image! I believe this is happening for all films, just for some films it is more apparent than for others. Is this a problem of my Mac or is this happening for everyone?

Some examples:

Yes, this was noticed - and reported to DxO - when FilmPack 8 was released. I haven’t heard any updates since then. I hope it gets fixed, as the problem contradicts the promotional literature published by DxO.

Checked with FP7 and there are patterns that repeat, if we look for’em. I’ve never seen the tiles as shown above though.

from the readme file

So this is known since October 2025? And not fixed yet? Unbelievable? How can they still sell that product, and who would buy such a product?

I understand that this refers to something else, that the grain is now random for each image, and not a fixed grain texture applied to each different image? But maybe I am wrong. Anyway, the problem of the grid seems to still exist.

My observations with the grid patterns is that the grain itself isn’t random - it’s in a recurring pattern, at least for certain film emulations where it’s obvious. This contradicts the release notes.

Not me! I found no reason to upgrade from FilmPack 7 after a trial of FP8. I reported the bug and my overall impression of FP8 in ticket #595126. DxO support gave me a personal reply which showed that they understood my comments and would be passing my observations along to the developers. No follow-up was given; indications are that the FilmPack team has taken no action toward a solution. I’m quite bothered by this, even though I don’t use grain in practice. It’s a blemish on DxO’s integrity, not just the product.
