DPL 10 - Luminosity mask available without Filmpack?

Hi,

It now seems that with PL 10, the luminosity mask feature is available without having FilmPack installed. Confirmed oder “bug” ?

Appears so! See here: I now have the Luminosity mask in V10 Local Adjustments?

Good to know on luminosity masks being added to V10. I have never been interested in Filmpack, I had a very early version and never used it. Hopefully Black Friday will bring a good discount on a V10 upgrade even though I just purchased V9 in August. Otherwise I will wait for V11 and do luminosity masks in Affinity.

Agreed. It is good news. I’m surprised DxO aren’t making a bigger deal of it, as it’s a huge selling point to say we no longer need FilmPack to have a more feature-fill core editing experience. I’ve been crying out for that for some time.

If it is indeed true, this is not the first time DxO has done something like this. At an earlier time perspective correction was only available with a Viewpoint license, For a few years now the main perspective functionality has been available in PhotoLab without a Viewpoint license.

Sure looks to me like it no longer requires FP.

Seems that luminosity mask, elliptical control points, depht mask, new control brush are natively in 10. If so, nice to see DxO seem to agree that masking is part of Photolab backbone and should not depend on plugins. :+1:

Trial version has them activated.

As I understand it the Trial version has the plug ins activated so it may be dependant on it not built in when paid for

My v10 is paid for. Don’t have FP, luminosity mask still available.

What about the Channel mixer? I see it available it in my trial, I don’t think I have Filmpack installed, but it says PL Elite / FP 8 in the title ?

Also there is a Discover Filmpack 8 now! advertisement on the top of the right panel, is this only visible in the trial? That would bother me, if I could not deactivate it …

PhotoLab free trials have always included free trials for the Viewpoint and FilmPack features .

Is it still the case that, without a FP license, you don’t have Advanced Settings sliders for the Contrast palette ?

Here’s mine, with a FP license;

That’s not the case for me, as i don’t have Fine contrast for example. It’s probable because i had tried PL9 last year, which also included Filmpack. So the 30 day trial of Filmpack is already over.

I have a channel mixer. (Also had in 9) No Monochrome Fine-Tuning if that’s what you mean? Can’t see any ads.

I do not have advanced Contrast settings.

So it would be nice to know what we buy with this v10 licence. Are viewpoint and filmpack in trial with it ? I hope DxO stopped this bad little game that let you think you buy something and get less when opening the box.

How to know for sure what’s in the box ??? Is this trial a photolab trial as advertised by DxO, or is it a photolab + viewpoint + filmpack trial wich is NOT advertised at all !

It’s the latter … So, in order to have ALL functionality, you’d need licenses for each.

Having said that, there’s not too much now missing from standard PL-Elite.

Would be nice to know what is …

With ViewPoint it’s simple: everything is included in PL Elite, except “ReShape” (I think).

Available only with (some) Filmpack version:

  • Light → FineContrast
  • Color → some Filmsimulations, → some Toning effects, → Channel mixer ??
  • Fx → Filter, → Filmpack, → Grain, → Creative Vignetting, → Blur, → Frame, → Texture, → LightLeak

For VP I think the things missing in PL10 are “ReShape Fusion”, “Miniature Effect”, and “Volume Deformation”. The last one is useful e.g. for group photos made with wide angle lens.
