I have been noticing a consistent issue where exported JPEG & TIFF images from DxO PhotoLab (v7, Windows 11) show noticeable color shifts when viewed outside the app especially in Windows Photos & web browsers.
The colors look accurate within PhotoLab’s preview; but the exported versions appear cooler or more desaturated. I have tried different color rendering settings & ICC profiles but the issue persists.
I have already ensured my monitor is calibrated (using DisplayCAL) and tested exports with both sRGB and AdobeRGB profiles. The strange part is that when I open the same exported image in another editing tool like Photoshop, the colors look fine which makes me wonder if it’s something to do with how Windows handles color profiles / how PhotoLab embeds them during export.
I have even tested with and without soft proofing but results are inconsistent.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a recommended workflow or export setting to ensure accurate color consistency across different apps/viewers? Any help / export presets that have worked well for you would be appreciated.
That does sound like a colour management issue, especially as you mention Windows Photo, which is not a colour managed application (at least not according to the searches I just did).
When checking with Soft Proofing are you assigning the same ICC profile (say, sRGB or AdobeRGB) as is set for your monitor ?
For which ICC profile have you selected when exporting to disk ?
Are you using the option (for both SP and Export to disk) to Preserve Color Details ?
Otherwise, as @stuck suggests, it sounds like a colour management issue (with the tool you’re using to review your images outside PL) - - Especially if you are exporting for a target with greater rendering capability than sRGB (say, for AdobeRGB) and you are NOT using a tool that will correctly reflect that ICC.
Windows 10 is usually described as not fully color managed - yes, for sure, the Photos app was not color managed then, as it was a particular and well-known sore point.
I still can’t agree with you. I’ve used Win 10 since 2017, and I’ll be using it until its end-of-life in a few months. It’s always had a colour management applet in the Control Panel, an applet it inherited from Windows 7. I’ve never had any trouble with the settings in that applet.
Applications that run on Windows though, now that’s a different story. Many of those are not colour managed and those that are usually require you, the user, to ensure it is invoked correctly.
