Satellite Internet? Starlink covers Australia.
Makes PhotoLab a rather costly proposition though.
Come on now… Be honest… Don’t you wish instead of this UI, that they did use a proper forum software, like Xeno or Vbulletin.. And what’s with all those childish badges… What are we, 5 years old???… What’s next? A lollipop, a party balloon…. ![]()
If I got to pay $195 per month, then it may be cheaper to go for the real thing and get Photoshop on a monthly subscription… No, sorry.. I don’t have that much money to piss against the wall… Plus I’m no longer interested to spend time on Internet these days…
That was the idea to buy a software outright and with no strings attached… Unfortunately there is one string, but it was hidden pretty well.. Still, if enough people open a ticket, I’m sure we can overcome this little obstacle…
PL licenses used to be clear text and could therefore be copied and distributed.
Now, the license file is encrypted and needs that verification which feels like an overshooting reaction to the simplistic early approach. I’m pretty sure that there’s at least one less limiting way to secure a license - and I’m NOT talking about dongles.
I’m more than happy for Dxo to keep their licence policy as it is.. I’m just asking to make it more reasonable and to keep in consideration customers like myself that not by choice do not have internet access all the time…
Like mwsilvers Mark pointed out, 90 days would still work and it would be REASONABLE…
That’s why I’m asking people here to help me, and to help any other people in this situation, by opening a ticket and ask for the change to happen…
KeithRJ Keith told me that I had no hope for a change to happen, but when I ask him to open a ticket to help, he has stop responding… Like I said, that’s not the right attitude if we are serious about helping this software and helping this company remain successful…
From Melbourne … jesus are we at 20 characteres yet?
My head hurts from banging it against a brick wall for so many years, so I just go with the flow now ![]()
If you don’t mind me asking… How many tickets did you open, and more importantly, what was DxO response???
Last response because I don’t have time to argue. I open tickets when I have genuine issues.
Bugs and UI issues I discussed at length during beta testing.
Don’t feel bad mate… You did your best, and that’s all you can do… Good luck to you…
A remote acquaintance his work around is he has a second installation on his daughters computer she logs in every few weeks thats how he does it.
The original license will still cease to work as long as the original computer doesn’t connect before time runs out. The timer is local and connecting to DxO resets the timer. No connection → No timer reset → No service

he must be logging in then. Told me a fib.
Bottom line is that you can only use this software, if you can use your phone…
Unless the customers stick together and open tickets to get the small change required, this is where your freedom of location stops! Simple as that!
I just approach Blackmagic and they told me that I can use DaVinci Resolve with a dongle that does come free specifically designed for this purpose… That and Raw Therapee will do the trick for my needs… I should be able to get rid of DxO Photolab, as it looks like no many people are aware of the crippling limitation…
Pity really, because I thought this software had a real potential, and I was really looking forward to use it…
You think, if you are reposting the same message, it will get through?
Or you just need some human contact?
It seems you were never in true wilderness, using only your foot, maybe a horse if you were lucky to hire one. No electricity for many days, so you have to take care of your camera’s batteries first, laptop with nvidia being obviously ruled out of question. If you find some power supply, then you start with photo selection in camera. In my case selection takes about 80–90% of processing time, so when I come back to civilization with my pictures already sorted, I’m happy to start real work.
But don’t get me wrong – I think it was unfair of DxO, to be VERY kind, to suddenly introduce the 37 days limit of offline license validity. Perhaps DxO is small enough for you to win a legal battle. That said, Adobe did even worse things…
Obviously it didn’t get through you… ![]()
No one can’t fight people ignorance… That’s why searching online does bring often better solutions, if you catch my drift… If you search even on this forum, you will find that other people in the same situation as me, have already come up with the solution to the problem…
I took a shortcut and decided to try alternative software instead that allows me to use it the way I need it, and not the way they want me too…
PS
We all need human contact… We are gregarious animal by nature… It just shows how really ignorant you are…
Cheers
Making a contact…
So please make us less ignorant and tell your solution, in the Aussie way, that is ![]()
BTW, all the Aussies that I’ve met were very friendly, helpful, and decent guys. You simply don’t sound like an Aussi to me.
“US”
![]()
There is no us, mate, just you…
What I “sound” to you, it is of no relevance to me… Or like we say here in Australia, it is no skin off my nose…
If you actually take the time to read the entire thread, you may find that it was not electricity the issue but the lack of network, something you would know if you were Australian… Now I can only repeat myself… We can’t fight ignorance..
I’m sure that eventually it will sink and get through, even to you… I can only hope…
Cheers
Sure, I’ve noted it, and that’s why I considered your conditions as relatively luxurious.
What would you do with the processed images without the Internet?
