That’s good.. I just purchased the software PhotLab 9 today, but I have a big problem…As I live on the road (mobile mechanic) I spend a lot of time in the bush (away from network coverage for months at a time)… I was just wondering if anybody else in Australia is having difficulty with the 37 day software limitation.. I only saw the limitation after I purchase the software…

We had a similar problem with the DJI drone company, but we were able to make them change the limitation from 30 to 90 days.. These companies often don’t realise that network coverage is virtually nonexistent the soon you get out of the major capital cities…

Taking picture is the only hobby I got and I was really looking forward to learning to use the software…

Unfortunately I don’t think you will have much luck getting DxO to make any changes to their policy.

You will just have to manage your internet access and just fire up PL when you do get internet which will give you another 37 days. It will just take a very quick check of their servers for this to happen.

Hope this helps but probably not the answer you are looking for.

Agree with Kieth I guess I live in the bush and just fire it up every two weeks or so but if your super remote could be a issue.

Can’t you just hook up to the bush telegraph?

Not an Aussie, but I can make fun of Aussies because I’m a Kiwi. It’s the law.

How do you guys put up with this forum software.. Only one replay every 24 hours???

What a joke… I wanted to reply earlier and to everyone but this forum prevented me, so I won’t bother any further…

Hey, look at that… It works now… :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

That’s not either a solution nor the right attitude my friend…

Trust me on that one…

I’m communicating with DXO at the moment and I sincerely hope they get to see the “Bigger Picture”… It is not just in Australia that we have this lack of network coverage, similar issue are found in the US, South America, Central Asia and several parts of Africa..

Think of how many customers they are loosing just because of a silly crippling limitation..

I just ask them to consider changing the limitation from 37 days to 90…
While it would make no difference to them, it would make a huge difference to their customers…

That’s probably what DXO think people do in remote areas as well

If you can fire up every two weeks, you live on the fringe not the bush my friend..

We have no network what so ever in 80% of Australia.. You can check the map that Telstra does have online… Most people around the areas where I often work, use satellite phone and lately have started to use Starlink… In the mines, especially in WA, Optus has setup special towers just for the miner and their operations… That’s what I’m using right now to post this message.. Very limited internet allowance…

Mmm, OK Burt I have been on these forums since I purchased PL v1 and my comment is from years of experience with DxO and similar requests.

You will find that DxO do what they want and take very little advice or requests from their users. You will either accept how they work, make a plan or move on.

On the positive side, DxO has the best noise reduction available which also incorporates sharpening, all done at demosaic time. This along with best in class camera and lens distortion correction you can get.

I think you will find that these features outweigh the quirks of the interface, design and business model that DxO had decided on.

I am not being negative, just realistic based on years of experience and beta testing for a few years.

Likewise, my friend… Years and years of experience… All it takes is for the customers to stick together and to vote with their wallet…

Without customers, any company can be taken down..

It is not a quirks, not to be able to use the software for the intended purpose when I need to use it… It is a necessity…

I’m not saying that you are negative or positive, and I’m not here to judge your life philosophy. I’m here as a customer that has been negated the right to use the software, just because of the ignorance on the geographical situation on network coverage, simply because most of these people in charge, never get to get out of their office…

Let me ask you something… Would it make any difference to you if they changed it from 37 days to 90 ???

Of course not. That’s why you don’t care…

Fortunately, some of us do care for the minority of people that are constantly crippled because they chose to live their lives in a different environment… (think of miners, farmers, young kids that live in the bush, people that works on boats, soldiers posted in remote areas… the list is endless)

I found that it really helps in life, if you take a step back and learn to look at the bigger picture, instead of just focusing on what’s on your monitor..

And vice versa: how are the backsides of your sheep going over there in NZ?

If DxO is intent on having a periodic network check-in requirement, which I am against, I agree that 90 days would be a more acceptable and reasonable limitation.

Not at all, in fact I would welcome it as I often visit Africa with very little internet!

This is not the place to argue but I was rather just trying to help you manage your expectations. Browse these forums and you will find a lot of people trying to get DxO to change things only to be frustratingly ignored - and not even acknowledged!

I do hope you have success :slightly_smiling_face:

They do. At the moment it is set to 37 days. I work as a mobile mechanic and taking picture and do a bit of editing is the only form of stress relief I got in the evenings between jobs.. Changing it to 90 day would make absolutely no difference to their licensing system.. I can easily understand why they do need to check often, to see if the software matches the machine it is running on, to prevent piracy, but 37 days actually only punishes the honest person that has purchased the software, not the pirate.. He no longer needs the network coverage, for the software to work…

Thanks Keith..

You are looking at from the wrong angle… We are using this forum to communicate with each other, but you need to talk directly with them by opening a ticket and let them know that we would like a change to happen… If everybody start to express their concern, they will listen, like DJI did back in 2024… If you are hoping to change thing by using the forum, you are wasting your time… Start a ticket and see what happen…

I don’t need you to wish me good luck, I need you to help me, and other people that have network restrains, to get the change happening…

I can proudly say that it is thanks to myself and a group of other DJI drone owners, if people around the world can take now their DJI drone in the bush without the crippling limitation of 30 days… I did it before, and I’m sure that together we can do it again…

What have you got to lose?
