Any users from Australia?

Oh, good lord…

You are just like a bad penny…

Let me see if you are seriously inclined to improve your understanding or you are just another tyre kicker..

My job involve me spending times in the bush on either a mine site of more often than not on large farm propriety… We have bore water and generators providing electricity (so much for luxury, hey, drongo) but no Network!!! Try to remember this important point!

Now sometimes the job is 24-7 or 24-5 depending on the requirements, but I do get to have some time off between jobs (NO LOCATION CHANGE- THE LOCATION IS STILL THE SAME)..

So in those day I like to take pictures and with the spare time in the evenings, take them off the camera edit them and save them on my external drives! Are you with me so far???

So, I don’t have the time to do this when I’m back in society, where we do have the network, as there are far more important priorities than play with my pictures, like paying bills, doing groceries shopping, and other activity that are nunya…

Capisci now, or you are still stuck in the same puddle???

I need to access the software when I got the time, NOT when DXO or you, (I’m starting to think that you are one and the same) think it is ok for me to do it…

Now, get cracking mate!

I’m just having fun, trying to see how far you will go making up the story. Bye for now.

Oh, come on mate, don’t be like that… I was just getting warm…

I always enjoy the challenge… I hope you have learned something today about us, Aussie (you need to put an e at the end for the correct spelling)… If you ever come to Australia, I hope you get to meet some of us, in the bush, but be careful… We like to tell it how it is…

Cheers

Suggest you back-off a bit, Burt … You’re giving us fellow Aussies a bad name !

If you are happy to be called a liar, be my guest… I stand for my right. I came here to ask for other fellow Aussies that could be in a similar situation for help or opinions on how to solve the issue, not for tyre kickers and Aussie “morals suggestion”… If you have a bad name, you probably deserve it.. I did not insult anyone other than reply in rime to wlodek after he insinuated that I was not telling the truth!!!

Read the entire thread and make up your mind, but don’t tell me to back off and let some stranger from another country, treating me like a child!

It’d be nice if we could tone the trolling down a bit

Back on topic; most seem in agreement that whatever our situations, a longer grace period between software validity checks would be a welcome thing.

Anyone dedicated to software piracy will still find a way around most checks and the more stringent the publisher attempts to control this, the more it ends up impacting the rest of us negatively. It’s a losing battle. May as well keep the customer happy.

It is a down spiral situation… Now the company loses sales on two side. The honest customer that can’t operate the software they way they need, and piracy that stays the same…

I was also surprised to find several other threads in this forum all related to people complaining on how DXO has been handling the licensing system.. So that means that DXO is well aware of the issue and that either are incapable to resolve the situation in a reasonable manner for their customers, or simply don’t care as Keith pointed out in his second reply in this thread…

Considering this thread where after 300 views it doesn’t seem that anybody else has managed to raise a ticket with the company, it also tells you where the community stands on this issue…

This morning after checking my email and realising that the conversation with DXO has died, combined with what’s going on here, I made the decision of no longer supporting this business.. I was previously using both Raw Therapee and Darktable, so moving back wasn’t as issue… My DXO Photolab is now going to a friend that live in Brisbane and that can probably enjoy it, and Bob’s Your Uncle…

Now I can concentrate on my hobby again, without the stress, but if I can, I’ll try to help other people to avoid the same mistake I did.. It wouldn’t be too hard for DXO to advertise the fact that you need network coverage to operate the software in the front page of their site, instead of having it hidden in the FAQ as if it was a often talked topic.. If it was, then it is done in purpose…

Personally, I really like what the company Blackmagic did. It is an Australia company that since day one has been 100% customer oriented, and look where they are today… The way they did fight piracy was simply by giving the software away and concentrating instead on the professional side of the business…

You can still buy the software that has the same kind of crippling limitation that DXO has, but they also understood that there are business and people that have different needs, so you can also buy the software with the free dongle, just for customers like myself… That’s a business worth supporting, and it seems that, judging by their popularity worldwide, that they got it right… Best of all, they really listen to their customers and are actively involved on their forum…

As far as DXO…Meh! Good luck with this company attitude.. Let’s see if they are still around in 10 years time…

Thanks everyone that shared their thought on this matter…

Cheers

Look around this site. Not closely related to issues mentioned in the thread, but interesting nonetheless:

For what it’s worth, I filed a report with DxO support pointing them to this post. I hope they pay attention.

My daughter and her family live in Brisbane and we’re usually once a year or more. No issues with internet there, of course, with NBN and other sources. Best wishes!

I get @Burt’s plight, but when do I get my turn to have everyone here open a ticket to solve the most annoying bug I want fixed? It certainly wasn’t mentioned in the documentation and has been reported before.
