If this looks over cooked, please say so. The RAW file is from a lowly Canon 400D, edited using PL9.
Not for me, and the “blossom” is consistently sharp – I just find the perfectly centered top view less exciting. ![]()
It’s the eye behind the viewfinder which matters, not the camera!
I think it looks great ![]()
Looks like you got it perfectly vertical too!
Also, any equipment will change your photography. A photographer learns and adapts. And, if you lean into a certain type of photography, adapt your equipment after you have exhausted other options.
Take photos for you, don’t care about anything else.
@Wolfgang the thistle ist not moving in any direction, no wind is blowing, e.g.. In my opinion I would choose the center as well. How would you setup this pic?

There you caught me!
The top-down image is clear and precisely centered in a square. While it lends the presentation a calm and static feel, it doesn’t quite appeal to me. – Photographing flowers from above can enhance their impact and create a stronger contrast with the background. Or should I include the context or omit it entirely?
There are so many ways to present them.

Thanks @Wolfgang , you are talking not just of position but of composition. I agree.
I re-edited the photos, masked some with PL9 AI, sharpened them with Nik Output Sharpener 8 ( → Display / Adaptive Sharpening ), and rearranged them.
Thistle looks great. Nice shot.
