Do you notice enough of a difference that you think it’s worth it to “upgrade” to 8.1 from my old v4?
Not an “upgrade” financially, as v4 is too old, so I’d pay new price.
The current version of the Nik Collection is quite different (UI and technical implementation) from NC4. Whether that’s worth a new license or not is a matter of several things imo.
Is there anything you miss in NC4?
- No → Stick to NC4
- Yes → Proceed
Is your computer/OS supported by NC4 and NC8?
- No → Stick to your current setup
- Yes → Run the NC8 trial…BUT
Make sure that you have the installer for NC4. NC8 is designed to not overwrite older collections, see image below…but it’s better to be safe.

Nik 6 was the version when all were updated to same UI, plus the only version that have perspective effect (which was removed for Nik 7 and not in Nik 8).
Nik 8 biggest update is mostly for Ps user. but from Nik 6 to Nik 8… they all worth over Nik 1 to Nik 5 which were slow implementation upgrade from DxO.
