Why no support for GoPro?

Why is it that PhotoLab dropped support for GoPro cameras? It’s been requested many times. I’ve seen many threads online discussing that but somehow DXO does not do it. Is it something to do with the format itself - too weird or difficult to work with somehow? Or something to do with licensing?

That’s an interesting question. DxO’s supported cameras page shows that they introduced support for GoPro cameras up to the HERO4 in PhotoLab 1.0 - and that’s all for the GoPro brand. Makes me wonder if GoPro stopped loaning cameras to DxO or if this was a business decision by DxO akin to no longer supporting new phone cameras. Hopefully someone here has asked about it and received an answer. Or if you ask DxO Support (support.dxo.com) someone on staff might be able to provide an explanation. Sometimes it also helps to ask here:

I’ve had the same issue with action cam files - looks like the lack of proper lens profiles and inconsistent metadata might be why they’re not yet supported like other camera types.

Yeah, it’s odd they never added GoPro support. I ran into the same thing after a trip where I shot a bunch with my Hero. From what I’ve read, the raw format can be tricky and maybe that’s why DXO hasn’t touched it. I just convert the files first, which is a hassle. These days I’ve been using a small diving camera for underwater shots instead, and its files load into PhotoLab without all the extra work.
