On the homepage it states that all features of ViewPoint 6 are integrated in PhotoLab as well. As I was told by the support at least the automatic magnifying glass at the perspective control lines are not and are only available in the stand alone version. Also that its not planned to do so in the future. Why?
This is a long-requested improvement for PhotoLab. See here:
To my knowledge, DxO hasn’t publicly explained why they haven’t been able to implement the magnifier in PhotoLab. But it appears that there are obstacles.
It is the appalling marketing they use again with saying this. Some might even say it was mis selling. If you paid for some thing thst was clearly mis sold in the uk I would think you could get a refund or claim a cash back from your bank.. Clearly this is somthing long known they couldn’t implement so the truth is most of viewpoint 6 is in PL not all.
Complaining about the lack of a magnifying glass in PhotoLab when it’s available in the standalone version is certainly understandable.
This limitation dates back to the introduction of the magnifying glass in ViewPoint, and we can assume, as already mentioned, that there was a technical reason for it.
However, there are other differences in functionality.
For example, in the horizon tool, you have the option to choose horizontal or vertical. In PhotoLab (with ViewPoint integrated), only a horizontal tool is displayed. Another limitation? Quite the contrary, because you can easily ignore this tool and select a starting point anywhere in the image, then drag the mouse to position the second point wherever you want. This allows you to draw a guide line that is either horizontal or vertical, as you prefer. It’s much faster than in ViewPoint standalone!
And honestly, it’s almost as fast (if not more precise) to zoom using the mouse wheel.
So yes, there are minor interface differences between the two versions, but really nothing to sue DxO over.
