Using PR - i lose Lightroom lens distortion

Lightroom has the 18-55 fujifilm distortion control with my native fuji raw files. But if i process the fuji raw files with Pureraw and import the DNG files back to lightroom i would lose the lightroom’s 18-55 lens correction functions - yeah ?

I don’t think you will…… If Lightroom uses metadata from within the raw file pureraw keeps this metadata when converting to dng so you still keep the metadata, That’s providing Lightroom used the metadata for such task and not the file format.

Best bet is try with 1 file and see if your wanting works.

here’s what ChatGPT has to say:

  • Fujifilm RAWs (RAF) contain embedded lens correction metadata (distortion, vignetting, chromatic aberration), especially for lenses like the XF 18-55mm.
  • Lightroom recognizes and uses this metadata — it doesn’t always show it as a selectable profile, but applies it automatically (you’ll see “Built-in Lens Profile applied”).
  • DxO PureRAW performs its own lens corrections during conversion to DNG:
  • It uses DxO’s own lens modules (which are excellent).
  • It does not preserve Fujifilm’s original embedded correction metadata in the DNG file.
  • As a result, when you import the DNG into Lightroom, the “Built-in Lens Profile” message will no longer appear, and Lightroom won’t auto-apply Fujifilm’s corrections.

DxO does not have focusing distance information ( from Fuji raw files ), so it can’t really apply its “excellent” corrections - you must make a guess manually what was that distance when a photo was taken … open any Fuji raw file shot with 18-55 and see yourself

if you disable optics correction in DxO output then you can extract ( RAF → DNG using Adobe DNG converter and that DNG will have optics corrections tags for you to extract , DNG itself discard ) and embed ( write a script or do it manually ) optics correction tags ( provided by Adobe ) into linear DNG from DxO software before feeding it to Adobe software … sounds like a pain, yes …

Yes - that would be one way.
But Wait - i checked DXO supported Camera & Lenses listing and LO and BEHOLD - the 18-55 is supported !!

Fujifilm X-T1 Fujifilm XF 18-55mm F2.8-4 R LM OIS (RAW) Fujifilm X DxO PhotoLab 5.0.0 DxO PureRAW 2.00

I’m assuming it’s also supported in PureRaw 5 then?

Also bonus - i just read the Tamron 17-70 for the fuji is also supported - didn’t think it was supported by any other software. Really happy the tamron is supported as it will be my next buy.

So all good now.
