✅ [UPDATED] NVIDIA driver 616.56 — DxO PhotoLab & PureRAW compatibility restored

Important notice - Do not update to NVIDIA driver 616.56

Hi everyone,

NVIDIA released driver 616.56 on August 26. Since then, serious issues have been widely reported on some Windows configurations.

This is not specific to DxO applications. Reports across the web point to a broader regression in this driver: display flickering, brief black screens and colour shifts (browsers, Discord, video playback), crashes in some 3D applications and games, and problems with virtual displays. Affected setups span RTX 30, 40 and 50 series, on both desktops and laptops. Some configurations show no problem at all.

Our recommendation:

If you have not installed 616.56 yet, please wait. Stay on your current driver (610.88 for most users).
If you have already installed it and are experiencing problems, roll back to your previous driver version. You can download 610.88 from NVIDIA’s driver archive and choose a clean installation during setup.

macOS users are not affected.

Hi everyone,

Good news for PhotoLab users: DxO PhotoLab 10.0.1 and 9.12.1 for Windows are now available and resolve the compatibility issue with NVIDIA driver 616.56 that could prevent exports using AI-powered corrections.

Working directly with NVIDIA, we identified the cause as a change introduced in driver 616.56 affecting an NVIDIA component used for AI processing. We have adapted PhotoLab accordingly.

After updating PhotoLab, exports using AI-powered corrections work as expected with NVIDIA driver 616.56, with no impact on image quality or processing performance. Rolling back the NVIDIA driver is no longer necessary for PhotoLab.

PhotoLab 10.0.1 also resolves several other Windows issues, including AI features on multi-GPU NVIDIA and AMD configurations, AI-powered Dust Removal on Intel Arc graphics cards, and a random crash mainly affecting multi-display configurations.

For our other products:

the corresponding PureRAW update is planned for September 9;
the corresponding Nik Collection update is planned for approximately two weeks later.

Please note that NVIDIA is separately working on other issues in driver 616.56 that can affect Windows and applications outside DxO. Those system-level issues are independent of DxO software and are not addressed by this PhotoLab update.

Hi - updated to PL 12.1.0 yesterday.

in the notes attached to the 9.12.1 update DxO states : -

Bug fixes: • ….. • AI Dust Removal now works as expected on computers using an Intel Arc graphics card.

I have a Intel ARC 140T gpu and use windows 11 and can’t find anything relating to dust removal after the update?

I have seen suggestions that on PL10 this feature is accessed via the retouch tool? - nothing relating to dust removal when accessing the tool on my machine?

any advice will be welcomed

This appears to be a documentation error on DxO’s part. Dust removal is a new feature in PL10. It is not available in PL9. The release information posted for PL 10.1 is identical to the release information for PL 9.12.1 which corrects for issues as a result of the problematic NVIDIA driver 616.56, I am guessing that they copied the same text to the release documentation of both versions and inadvertently forgot to remove PL 10 only references.

Following our previous warning regarding NVIDIA driver 616.56, we have now released updates for our current and several previous versions of DxO PhotoLab and DxO PureRAW.

These updates include a workaround that restores full compatibility with NVIDIA driver 616.56, with no impact on image quality or processing performance.

The following Windows versions include the fix:

DxO PhotoLab

PhotoLab 10.0.1
PhotoLab 9.12.1

DxO PureRAW

PureRAW 6.6.1
PureRAW 5.14
PureRAW 4.19

If you are using one of these DxO products on Windows, we strongly recommend updating it to the version listed above to benefit from the NVIDIA 616.56 compatibility fix.

These updates also address several GPU-related issues, including problems affecting AI tools on systems equipped with multiple NVIDIA or AMD GPUs. Some versions also include a fix for AI Dust Removal on Intel Arc GPUs.

One important clarification:
Our previous warning concerned a broader regression in NVIDIA driver 616.56, with issues also reported outside DxO applications. The updates above provide a workaround within DxO software; they do not modify or fix the NVIDIA driver itself.

Therefore, if driver 616.56 is working correctly on your system, you can now use it with the DxO versions listed above. If you are experiencing display flickering, black screens, colour shifts, crashes, or other system-wide issues unrelated to DxO, rolling back to an earlier NVIDIA driver may still be advisable.

On Windows, there have been no issues so far when updating to PL9.12.1.778 and PL10.0.1.153 using Nvidia Studio driver 616.92.
