UPDATE or UPGRADE?

Hi, I’m still sticked with my VP 3.4, when I check an update, It proposes me VP4 but I do not own a licence for VP 4 so is it a free UPGRADE from 3.x to 4.x or an error and I’m not supposed to UPDATE without a valide VP4 licence.
I’m a bit confused because Photolab still proposes me UPDATES from my PL 7 version and for me UPDATE is NOT an UPGRADE as I am still in a licensed version… so the meaning of those words and their use in our interfaces have their importance.

For all versions v3.X these are free minor updates, for versions v3.X to v4.X these are paid major upgrades

Yes, this is what I always understood, but I would appreciate to have a clear separate message between both.
BTW, DXO proposes me an UPDATE from VP 3.4 to VP 4 and not directly to VP5…So I can be more confused about maybe a free update from VP3.4 to VP4…

Once again UPDATE is displayed not UPGRADE (well indeed in french…).
What is confusing is me… if I follow the update without buying the VP4 or VP5 licence, I would have to downgrade to go back to my VP 3.4 if it’s not a free update included with my licence.

I do not have this confusion with Photolab (same company…) that displays me “you’ve already got the last UPDATE” even if there are 2 UPGRADES available since my PL7 …

Other software editors do clearly the difference between both without confusing when you click on “check an update” or by displaying clearly that there is an UPGRADE available with a dedicated button to renew the licence or upgrade. No possible mistakes !

[EDIT ]
Just to illustrate it, for my Nik Collection 7.x , I’m actually using the last update available even if there is an 8.X UPGRADE . Here, no confusion !!!

But for View Point 3.4, there is an UPDATE (“Mise à jour” in french)available but not in 3.x but in 4.X !! Here is my CONFUSION !!!

In order to clarify your own situation, I propose you check your account at shop.dxo.com and log in with your account credentials.

You can then see your products and the upgrades with respective prices.
VP 3.4.0 is the last version of VP3. You can still download the installer for security reasons (like fallback, if you unwantedly upgraded to VP4)

As for the marketing lures: Just ignore them.
