Uninstalling Nik 7

Please can you help,
so where do I search this on Google? or my computer,? just need someone to talk me through this please, have been told to do the following by DXO see below

~/Library/Application Support/DxO/Licenses ** (This is the hidden Library found under the “Go” drop down by pushing “Option” OR open Finder, select “Go > Go to Folder…” and copy/paste the path)
I’m using Mac Studio OS Sonoma

and delete the nikcollection7 file.

Then launch the software and activate once again.

Regards dave

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure when you download the app, it contains 2 file: the installer and the uninstaller.

correct, install and uninstaller

***edit, there’s always going to be some remnant left over when removing a software though.

Hi Vincent
Yes when you install, it does contain the 2 files,

however I need to figure out the way I have described above, which will delete every thing relating to it then I can reinstall, long story why I need to do this

Kind regards Dave

Removing all things that come with the Nik Collection takes some effort. If your happy with the CLI “find” command, you can get everything in a few rounds of cleanup.

I make my life easier by using FindAnyFile from the App Store. It’s not a free app though.

Search drive with root privileges

  • search for files starting with “dxo.com
→ check results and move NIK stuff to the trash
  • search for files starting with “dxo.”
→ check results and move NIK stuff to the trash
  • search for files containing “efex”
→ check results and move NIK stuff to the trash
    etc.

Searching for “Nik” also produces results with e.g. “Nikon”, but you can remove most items with other search terms. Be extra careful though, some files you might find belong to macOS!

Document your steps for later reference…and disconnect your time machine drive before you delete things.

Hi platypus

Thanks for this, I will have a look late on tomorrow, and let you know when I’m done !!!
I’m 72 and made a mistake when migrating from old Computer to new, so migrating Nik 7 software, hence now doesn’t work with Photoshop, tried uninstalling, then re installing but didn’t solve problem,
DXO has told me to do above , but I’m not getting what he says, my brain is tired ha!!

Thanks, I will try, and have disconnected Time machine back up disk,

Regards Dave

why do you need to removed all of it to re-install after? you can just download the latest from your account on dxo website and run the install which should override the existing nik 7.

the only way to really removed everything is a factory reset of your computer and restart from the beginning, it’s a morning work but will clear all what’s unwanted.

That looks like a steep and stony path to follow. Luckily enough, it can be done more easily on a mac. The “problem” with many of DxO’s un-installers is, that they just remove select parts and leave a lot of stuff scattered all over your drive.

The only trace of an otherwise uninstalled Nik Collection is buried in a macOS database that contains info about installed applications. Getting into this DB is beyond what I’d want to do though.

If DxO provided complete un-installers, we’d not have to resort to some woodoo.

To be answered by @Rustydave … If the goal is to regain the license, a complete removal is not helping. The license counter cannot be changed by the customer but by DxO alone and, as we can read in several posts, they are quite reluctant to provide this service.

yep and that’s why i said “only way” would be reset of your mac, i know it’s not ideal but no trace left behind and they’ll ask you for your license again. trying to find manually every trace is insane waist of time from remnant left behind, on the other hand, it would help free up your drive.

The license counter is on DxO’s servers. Users have no means whatsoever to change that counter, but the one asking DxO support to do it.

Hi all
