Trial period error

How can I fix this error message for a trial version of Filmpack in DP8?

Your trial period could not be started (5)

Previously, a Filmpack trial version was installed in DP9 trial version. Now I’m back to my DP8 license and getting this error. Both trial versions (DP9 and Filmpack) have been uninstalled.

What versions of FilmPack and PhotoLab are you now trying to run?

FilmPack 8 is only compatible with PhotoLab 9:

You can use FilmPack 7 with PhotoLab 7, 8, or 9.

I used the command in the PL8 Help menu “Launch Filmpack 7 trial …” It should be the correct version.

Are you finding that PL8 still starts OK? At what point do you see the error?

If you get the splash screen it would be handy for you to screenshot it and post it here (edit out the license keys!)

e.g.

A little clarification. Do you have a license for FilmPack 7 or did you download the trial version of FilmPack 7. Was the FilmPack 7 trial working from within PhotoLab 8 before you installed the trial versions of PhotoLab 9 and FilmPack 8? Once FilmPack 8 was released how will you able to get a trial version of FilmPack 7? Or did you download it before FilmPack 8 was released?

Since you indicate then you deleted the FilmPack trial, what FilmPack trial do you currently have downloaded?

I used a trial version of FP8 in PL9.

Then I deleted FP8 and PL9 and continued working on my licensed PL8.

I wanted to try Filmpack there too, so I used the menu command “Launch Filmpack 7 trial …” and followed the link there (“Get key”).
When I enter the activation code I received for the trial version, I get the above error.

Maybe the problem is:
When I click on the link in PL8 for FP7, I only get an FP8 activation key. Could it be that there is no longer a valid trial version code for FP7?

That is possible. However, if it is true that FilmPack 8 can only be installed for use in PhotoLab 9, then I would think FilmPack 7 wood still be available for that purpose. However, I am not certain that FilmPack 8 cannot be used with PhotoLab 8, although some of the latest features might not be available.

After some brief searching, I get the feeling there’s only a trial available for FP8.

Even the link for FP7 and FP6 redirects to FP8 now:

DxO FilmPack 8

DxO FilmPack 8

(Check the URLs for both, they’re for FP6 and 7 in theory).

That would be consistent with DxO’s practice of only selling the current version of each product. Still, it’s buggy behavior for an older trial to try to activate with the wrong license. That’s in no one’s best interest. A newer license should ideally activate an older product if that’s all there is - but DxO hasn’t designed it that way. Submitting a support request is the only way forward.
