I’m using PhotoLab 8 and would like to learn more about making ‘difficult’ masks. As an example, I have the image below and would like to darken the bright area in the top-right quadrant. Some of the subject has the same tones and luminosity of that area.
Are there some tutorials (beyond the few I found on YouTube) or blog posts that could get me started?
You can check this dop-file → _2110640_DxO.jpg.dop (161,1 KB) on your exported image.
I used a luminosity mask, filled in the missing areas with the brush, and deleted the mask selection from the subject. To refine the overlap, you can use a feathered edge and reduce the opacity of the brush/eraser if needed.
You can also use a Control Line which is similar to a gradient but works like a Control Point where you can position the pipette to sample what tones and luminosity you want to affect, then make adjustments. Showing the mask helps and specially while moving the pipette.
