The waters of Pelorus Sound

The drive from Blenheim to Nelson “over the top” is a lush, inland route at the top of New Zealand’s South Island. But at the town of Havelock, the road briefly runs along the water at the very head of Pelorus Sound.

This day, Easter Sunday, 2025, was a damp one and, as this shows, a still one.

This is a 10 frame panorama. The originals were pre-processed in PhotoLab (lens correction, white balance, and some exposure correction) before being stitched in Hugin. The output from Hugin was then further tweaked (fine contrast, minor tone curve changes, crop, and watermark). The final export was downsized to 40 megapixels.

Gorgeous.

I can’t compete with your panorama but it reminds me of my trip down Queen Charlotte Sound as I crossed from Wellington to Picton, back in July 2012.

Awesome. I live in hope of capturing something that good one day.

I must have done the ferry crossing, south then north, at least half a dozen times in my life. Mostly as a kid. I always loved the Queen Charlotte Sound bit.
