Switching from LTC to DX0 Erase Tool

HI! I’m new to DXO Photolab, and after just a few days use, am going to purchase it, and end my sub with Adobe.

One thing I just can’t figure. Lets say the erase tool, select the tool, paint over an object I’d like to remove, then…what? How do I apply the tool. (In Lightroom you select and then choose ‘Rmove’.

Using Vers 8

Which tool are you calling “the erase tool”? Do you mean the healing brush (which has two modes - clone or repair)? Or the eraser in the Local Adjustments section (which is used to erase parts of masks, not objects from your photo)?

My error then, yes the erase tool.
OK, does Photolab have an erase tool?
And it’s obvious I need some good tutorials, can you point me?

In PhotoLab, it’s called the ReTouch tool.

Paint over things and see how they are removed.
Try different options for different situations.

How do I get those sub-panels like Retouch Settings?

If it doesn’t appear when you select the tool, you need to check the box marked here…

… then you will see the panel…

Can I suggest that you experiment a bit longer before you part with your money? Photolab and Abode’s editors (Lightroom and Photoshop) are very different beasts. You may yet find other things you can’t figure.

Wise advice. I’m just trying things out at this stage, and making no commitment either way. I get it the two programs are different and probably should be approached with different mindsets, but learning new stuff doesn’t bother me.
So at the moment, it’s looking good!

…makes sense. If you use/care for proper search/find and similar management features, be sure to test DPL very carefully. I feel that it’s a few releases behind Lightroom Classic, unless DxO is going to surprise us.

So far, LrC has been much more robust and well implemented regarding asset manageability than DPL which has been focused towards technical quality of rendering e.g. with its noise reduction and optical corrections.

Please take into account that the trial is done with Elite Edition. Getting an Essential Edition for its lower price might make you spend double because Essential lacks a few features that I’d not want to part with. Also check out functionality with and without FilmPack and Viewpoint. They contribute a few features that other apps already contain. To switch FP and VP off and on, locate and move the trial licenses out of and into the foreseen folders as needed.

Last but not least, calculate costs. DPL, FP and VP are updated (payable) periodically and if you want to have all of them up-to-date, total cost can be relatively high.

Hi there, and welcome to DXO. I stumbled across this a while back. Might be helpful.
