Starting DxO -> got Loading Time about 7 Minutes

When I start DxO Photolab 7 it takes over 7 minutes before I can work with it. In the LOG files I see the following:

  • 2024-05-26 00:27:27.665 | DxO.PhotoLab - 25568 - 4 | PhotoLab - Info | OpenCL processing : ON
  • 2024-05-26 00:31:02.304 | DxO.PhotoLab - 25568 - 1 | DxONET.Extensibility.ServiceLocator - Info | Initializing service ‘ApplicationHangoutProcessor’ (init order = 13).

Thats 4 Minutes for Initialization. And further down i found this:

  • 2024-05-26 00:31:16.162 | DxO.PhotoLab - 25568 - 1 | DxONET.Extensibility.ServiceLocator - Info | Initializing service ‘PresetService’ (init order = 1050).
  • 2024-05-26 00:32:14.260 | DxO.PhotoLab - 25568 - 63 | Database - Info | Profiling DxO.PhotoLab.Database.DOPDB.SaveChanges(…): 0 ms
  • 2024-05-26 00:33:14.270 | DxO.PhotoLab - 25568 - 105 | Database - Info | Profiling DxO.PhotoLab.Database.DOPDB.SaveChanges(…): 0 ms
  • 2024-05-26 00:34:14.273 | DxO.PhotoLab - 25568 - 19 | Database - Info | Profiling DxO.PhotoLab.Database.DOPDB.SaveChanges(…): 0 ms
  • 2024-05-26 00:34:45.668 | DxO.PhotoLab - 25568 - 1 | ServiceLocator - Info | Service Locator Initialized

It start some Profiling Changes in DB (DB is some KB big) and needs to the point 1 Minute. But it LOGs 0 ms. What is wrong here?

In total it takes 7 minutes for starting the Programm…

How to fix this?

Is all this time occuring while the start up splash screen is displayed? Is this a new problem? Was PhotoLab previously loading more quickly? Does this happen every time you start PhotoLab? Have you tried rebooting your computer? Where are your image files located? If this is the first time you have started PhotoLab? You could also try uninstalling and reinstalling it.

Start up should take no more than around 30 seconds and depending on your hardware and the number and location of the image files, it could take as little as 15 seconds.

My 16" MacBook Pro with 16GB memory takes about 8 seconds. @Erwind, what spec is your machine?

It happens in DxO 6 also.
Got a 14900K with 32GB DDR5 Ram - Nvidia 4070 Super. Programm installed on a SSD. Don’t know whats wrong here. Lightroom needs 5 seconds to start on my system…

Does this happen every time you start PhotoLab? → YES

Have you tried rebooting your computer? → More than one Time. Delete the DB. Look in the DB. Check everything…nothing wrong found.

Where are your image files located? → Image File? What you mean exactly?

Reintstalled it 3 Times.

Possible causes include your antivirus software, failing hardware (check the Windows Event Viewer Application and System logs for warnings), a network or driver problem, or perhaps something out of whack with Windows (run sfc and dism from an administrator shell to find and repair these problems).

Internal or external?

Are they on a local or external drive?

How many files are in the folder that you are trying to open? You should never expect to have more than a couple of hundred as PL has to process every one of them on startup.

antivirus software → turned Avast off - no changes
Windows Event Viewer Application → nothing there
driver problem? Which driver? It’s software, no Hardware
run sfc and dism from an administrator shell to find and repair these problems → no. Everything running smooth on my system. No failes from this site. Has nothing todo with Windows 11.

High spec video cards are known to have problems where drivers are not updated.

You still haven’t answered my question about where and how many files you have in the folder that opens when PL starts.

On a local SSD 990 Pro 4TB

How many files are in the folder that you are trying to open? → Try to open? Got a folder with hundreds of Photos. I try to open just only one if loaded. Thgis should not be the problem.

Just look at the LOG of DxO:

OpenCL processing : ON → Needs 4 Minutes. What is OpenCL ? And why it needs 4 Minutes to initialize?

Database - Info | Profiling DxO.PhotoLab.Database.DOPDB.SaveChanges(…): 0 ms

Need 1 Minute and says 0 ms??? That’s a bug!

where drivers are not updated. → comon! seriously? I am far away from such noob mistakes of not updating the drivers. Everything runs top on my system.

Photoshop/ Lightroom starts under 10 seconds.

How many hundreds?

OpenCL is video related to video drivers and can be a cause of problems if inappropriately used in your configuration

PS/Lr do not develop RAW files on the fly like PL does.

Which configuration? I installed the Card driver. Thats it.

develop RAW files on the fly → Interresting. The RAW datas on my SD Card. In the Directory are only TIFs/ JPGs

But ok, I’ll try to say DxO that there is no standard directory with “Hundreds” of files.

Nothing Changed. Marked an empty folder on the left site before closed DxO. Start again…7 Minutes to start.

Ok folks. Thanks for your tips to restart the computer and install graphic card driver. It’s a good forum here…

Bye

I use an old i7 6700K, 32 GB RAM and Saumsung 860 SSD, and I get 20-25 seconds.

Just a shot in the dark: do you have removable USB hard drives connected to your PC? Stuff like WD Elements/My Book units used only for external backup?

Internal or external?

Where are the photos you intend to edit? Are they on your internal hard drive, an attached external hard drive or are they on a network drive? How many photos do you have in your average folder?

Is he indicating he is editing files directly from his SD cards?

Well, he does say…

In which case, I’m not surprised

Looks like a case for DxO support.

Cheerio!

@Erwind: Did you use PL before that? Is it a new problem?
I can’t imagine how you can work with the RAW files on a SD card.
