“Special upgrade” advertisement?

I’m on PL8 and I’ll certainly upgrade to PL9. Maybe in a few weeks (or maybe on BF).

As probably many of you, I recieved a mail from DXO which says “Special upgrade”. Price then presumably is € 119,99.
What’s so “special” about this offer?? Is the normal upgrade price higher?
Thank you very much!

I know and I did.
It says € 119,99 for upgrading from PL8 Elite to PL9 Elite.
I was wondering, what is so “special” about this upgrade price. I think it’s the normal upgrade price (like years before), and not temporarily or anything special.
I mean….not a short time offer or anything like that.

What they mean is it is special (as in not the full purchase price) for those who qualify.

It might be accidental poor wording, poor understanding, or it could be someone taking liberties with how they phrase it try to and imply it’s limited or exclusive.

It’s not, it’s simply the upgrade price.

I’m anticipating it will be cheaper still on BF. At the very least, hopefully AI masking will be working by then.

Thank you. That’s what I expected. My friend (also an avid user of PL, thought otherwise and wanted to upgrade as soon as possible. I told him no need to.

That’s also what I do…buy at BF. If there are no special deals then (would be a first time), then it’s always possible to upgrade for the current upgrade price. I’ll see.
By the way, I think AI masking already works (?)

AI masking isn’t working for me, I’ve read on here that some of us (nVidia users especially) need to install older drivers to get it working, which I don’t really want to do. I’ll live without it for now, and hopefully they’ll fix it at DxO’s end.

Aha. Ok, I understand .

One of the issues with all this is that one can only run the trial once? That’s not helpful if you feel the software is below par and you want to wait until it is improved. Maybe there should be shorter trials available after each update - say a week? Or am I missing something.

Hi Colin,

maybe you pass this idea on to DxO. – In my opinion, an initially frustrated user will never spend money if they can’t test again.

Good idea, I will take it up with DxO, Wolfgang. I just wanted to be as certain as I could that my understanding of the situation is correct.

Keep in mind that (to much grumbling here) DxO Black Friday discounts have been dropping steadily over the past several years. Last year the BF discount for people upgrading PL6 or PL7 to PL8 dropped to only US$10. (The full version PL8 BF discount was US$50 with smaller discounts for full version FilmPack and ViewPoint.)

Still there are enough early bug reports that I think it makes sense, for those who aren’t already in a 30-day trial and want to wait for any BF discount to delay starting their trial until a November update, if any.
