Some HEIC files from iPhone 13 Pro render and many do not

Recent trip to East Anglia, my son shot around 400 photos from his iPhone 13 Pro (since has upgraded to iPhone 17pro), all in HEIC. Almost NONE of them are rendering or viewable in PL9, while other HEIC photos taken by him on same phone and same trip DO render. I can not see how anything could be different in the iPhone camera to cause this. I am having to convert these to JPEG to edit.

Any ideas?….thanks….gary

Perhaps he used different camera modes/features for some photos?

I’m not sure, but 454 files will not display and I really can’t think of what iPhone camera “settings” would make the files un-viewable, but would certainly welcome thoughts on the subject. FWIW, the files ARE viewable universally with macOS Finder, ON1, Graphic Converter, Photo Mechanic, Photo Supreme and xnViewMP.

Note that only early iPhones are supported by DxO, certainly not the iPhone 13.
Newer smartphones merge multiple shots into a single raw and do other tricks, which are not compatible with the current DxO denoising/demosaicking models.

Appreciate the response, but as previously stated…SOME files ARE rendering from this same phone / camera iPhone 13 Pro). Also, PL9 absolutely does support latest iPhone 17 Pro…both Pro Raw (dog) and HEIC…

You should escalate to DxO then. They monitor this forum, but only passively, it seems.

Yes, I probably will do that. I usually try to go to the collective knowledge of the forums first as “self help” before creating a Tech support “ticket”, but this probably does require a “deep dive” into the file structure / data. thanks…gary
