PROBLM RESOLVED. Advanced History is now working correctly now. I am not sure what might have caused the initial issue. Possibly some glitch on my machine.
I just installed the PhotoLab 8.1 update for Windows 10 to coincide with the new version of Viewpoint 5 and discovered that the Advanced History is no longer displaying any edits or the startup preset. It is completely blank. I have never had an issue with Advanced History before this update. Can anyone else confirm they are having the same issue with PL 8.1 for Windows 10?
I ran the PhotoLab repair feature and it did not resolve the issue.
PL8.1/Win11pro here. Advanced history displays for example:
"
Applied default preset 6 - No correction Imported on Sun, Nov 26, 2023 10:03 PM
"
so no such problem.
Does the DOP file contain in Items CreationDate and AppliedPresetDisplayName in the Itemâs Settings section?
At least these two should be displayed in the History. Anything in PL logs?
Not sure what happened but it appears to be working correctly now. Must have been some kind of glitch on my machine. I did not see anything in the logs.
Strange - but I have the same problem.
I applied changes to a .ARW file (Sony RAW) a couple of days ago.
When I go back into the editor, the image shows the changes I made but the Advanced History just shows the âApplied default presetâ.
The .ARW file properties show the original created and modified date/time.
Iâm running Win 11. Photolab v8.1.0 build 434 Trail version.
Update: Iâve rebooted the PC but still no Advanced History shown.
In fact none of the RAW files Iâve edited in the past show Advanced History, other than âApplied default presetâ. However, all the images show the changes I made a couple of days ago.
This is a known problem, advanced history donât work with the Win version.
This isnât kept from one session to another.
Itâs a request for function that has been made for a long time âŠ
Currently History can be cluttered, making it unuseful. They should start with âHistory Denoisingâ in the first place. Quick subsequent changes of the same slider should be concatenated into one. The corresponding âidle timeoutâ should be configurable and started only after preview is updated. History persistence on Windows could be the next step.
Maybe they should provide a âcheckpointâ button, but probably they think Virtual Copies to be a good enough substitute.
@HGF The products heritage (past). The products method of development. Product Managements imperatives.
The direction of the wind, phases of the moon.
We donât know and DxO tell us as little as possible.
Almost all that any of us know has been derived empirically, by inspecting and testing the product, precious little about anything is ever shared by DxO with users and testers alike.
@BHAYT , DxO is available for MAC and WIN. As I understood adv history works for MAC , it doesnât for WIN. ( Iâm on WIN11) There must be a good reason for DxO dev not to fix this. I donât believe that dxo is doing nothing to upset the community. Unfortunately Iâm not experiened enough with coding of MAC/WIN File Systems to get a realistic opinion. Let us remain brave
@HGF There are users that have been following the Saga of âAdvanced Historyâ and its preservation in the database on the Mac and its loss at the end of each session on Windows.
Some users have quoted in the past that it is unnecessary and to be honest, Windows users have managed to survive without it. One user suggested that DxO has stated that its preservation in the Windows product was essentially impossible!
I donât believe that for one minute but it is possible that the techniques used to preserve it on the Mac wonât transfer at all or easily to the Windows product.
Effectively that would mean that the existing expertise is not transferable or has left the company or âŠ
Personally, I feel that there are even more important issues that need addressing as a matter of urgency and which should be easy enough to fix or implement, putting to one side the issues of PL9 and its premature release and the fallout from that!!
Nevertheless, promises were made by DxO way back that it would come to PhotoLab(Win) but I am not going to hold my breathe waiting for it.
