Refresh Photolab 8

How do I safely refresh my copy of Photolab 8 (Windows 11)?

If by ‘refresh’ you mean, reset everything to how it was when you first installed it then could try rerunning the PL8 installer and choosing the option to repair your installation.

However, I don’t know if that will rest everything back to ‘out-of-the-box’. I suspect it won’t, but it won’t do any harm to try.

I checked with my AI search on this and it appears to be much more complicated that this. I should have mentioned that I also use film Pac.

What exactly do you mean by “refresh” and why you want to do it?

FilmPack and ViewPoint functionality is included in PhotoLab, enabled only if you enter their license keys. You don’t have to install FP or VP, unless you want to use them as plugins to non-DxO software or as standalone applications with their own GUI. FP and VP installations use separate directories, different than PhotoLab, and many libraries are just duplicates of what is installed by PL alone. PhotoLab updates contain current updates to FP and VP “DxO plugins” (but not the GUI, i.e. standalone versions).

The problem has been solved. Thanks to everyone who replied to the question…

It would be courteous of you to give more details. You were asked twice what you meant by ‘refresh’ but didn’t answer.

Hi Raybun,
I hope it’s okay that I’m using your post as an opportunity to point out an important issue in the forum. You used stuck’s answer as an opportunity to start an AI search and received a result that was unsatisfactory for you: it’s much more complex than stuck’s answer. Was stuck’s answer not enough for you, or are you additionally querying the AI system you used? The challenge for forum members now is that they don’t know what you asked the AI and what the answer is. The prompt is crucial for the direction of the answer. We should take that into account. What I’m still interested in: Would you have asked the forum at all if the AI had already given a sufficiently good answer? Was the question in the forum necessary to formulate the prompt for the AI with sufficient precision?

The problem is that no one else benefits from your resolution of this issue, since you haven’t defined what you meant by “refresh” or provided details as to the query asked of the AI. While I recognize that these may not be required for you to benefit from the answers provided, it would be nice if others could also have access to these results, now and in the future. That is, after all, how “communities” work, which is different from the technical support provided one-on-one by DxO themselves.

I do agree… The problem was something that was misunderstood by myself and should not have been posted.

So what was your misunderstanding? Please understand, revealing your mistake won’t make you look silly, it will help the next person that makes the same mistake.

Old Age. Got a remedy for this?

OK, so you’re not going to tell us what happened, that’s your choice but don’t be surprised if no one tries to help you the next time you ask a question here.
