Red color and Wide Gamut

PhotoLab 8.x Windows.
I have a RAW file with red elements. I see the red color in DxO (Wide Gamut Color Space). But in the exported image (jpg) there is a different color (First comparison: left DxO, right XnView).
When I switch Color Space to Classic (Legacy), the color in DxO is the same as in the exported file (Second comaprison: left Wide Gamut, right Classic).

How to properly edit this type of photo.

Yes, this tends to happen with the red channel. I recommend always having Soft Proofing on for the color space you are exporting to (typically sRGB for me). Then you will see the final color mappings that will take place upon export.

Is color rendering on?

My best guess as to what’s happening…

  1. Many of the reds are outside of the sRGB colour space.
  2. When PL is set to use ‘wide gamut’ it assigns colours to the RAW data and then applies DxO’s propriety rendering intent to colour manage the out-of-gamut colour, to bring them into the sRGB colour space. In this case the reds are a long way out of the sRGB colour space so a noticeable colour shift is to be expected.
  3. When PL is set to ‘classic’, the same thing happens but this this time the colours assigned to the RAW data are going to be different, and now the the reds are not that far from the sRGB colour space meaning there’s not much of a colour shift to see.
