Real gift or phishing?

Hi! Today I’ve received a strange email (or maybe not, unsure).

Even if sender and signature seem legit, i’m not trusting anything anymore.
Let me know your thoughts.

Thx!

Hi,

I admit that I have found this package and this email rather strange :

  • No indication of origin (actually “La Boutique du Fujiste - EKS Creation, a Belgian company - https://www.laboutiquedufujiste.eu)
  • No information about author (see author’s site)
  • No information about the target plugin (apparently Color Efex and Silver Efex for the preset marked B&W)
  • No information about installation (Import from Presets context menu in Color Efex or Silver Efex)
  • According to the author’s site these presets are specifically aimed at images coming from Fuji APNs (this is not mentioned in the email).

However, the email appears to really originate from the DxO mailer (Mailchimp). So, apparently no phishing.

This seems very similar to a legit email that came from info@news.dxo.com.

The email encourages me to download and try out Nik 8, and then to download the presets at the link in the email. It would appear that you are getting the freebies link because you’ve already upgraded to Nik 8.

Being an existing user, I got the free presets.

Got this email today too. Downloaded the presets and now? No instructions, nothing. Nevertheless thanks to DXO. Also did the 10% discount.

The instructions on importing presets are in the Nik8 user manual. I followed them and the presets are now installed

Thanks Chris, will try :+1:t3:

When I queried the matter with DxO Support, I got the following reply:-

The presets are intended for Color Efex and are imported directly there:
Download the presets and unzip the ZIP file.
Open Nik Color Efex and click the three horizontal lines next to “Presets” on the left-hand side.

  • Select “Import Preset”.

  • Navigate to the downloaded preset files, select them, and confirm your choice.

You will then find the presets in the “Imported” section.
