Purchase 'strategy'

I haven’t been actively following DXO matters in the past year or so. I’ve been using PL6 and didn’t bother with PL7. Now I’m considering whether to stay on the “upgrade path” by purchasing the ‘full’ suite of PL8 that, even with the upgrade price, is a hefty $US250 for me.

As I recall, it used to be advantageous to wait for the so-called “Black Friday” (end of November) sales of DXO products. Do you think that still likely to be the case?

Thanks for your advice,

Peter

it’s always a possibility, if it happen you end up with a nice discount, if it doesn’t occur then it’s full price. so far every year they do offer black friday discount, which is nice.

It’s also possible that a new version of ViewPoint will arrive between now and then. VP4 was released in early October 2022, and PhotoLab 8 seems to be programmed to accept newer VP licenses than are presently available. Another reason to wait if you can. I’m running the PL8 trial and will probably wait to buy it, as photography is just a hobby for me. Work keeps me very busy and I have a huge pile of books waiting to be read.

Thank you for that advice on VP.

I’ll wait until Black Friday. Since I am on PL5, I will have to buy a new license. Depending on the prices, I will decide what to buy and what not. The PL+FP combination is mandatory because of the luminance mask. The update for VP will depend on the price. The difference between VP3 and VP4 is just one feature I’m unlikely to use.

I can be wrong, but I remember that there was a time for a reduced price for a boundle of the software and at BF only a reduction for each software. So it depends on what you want.

Do you currently have versions of Filmpack and ViewPoint if so which versions?

Personally an upgrade from V6 to V8 is certainly worthwhile for the improvements on offer.
