For AI masks, add ‘Diffusion’ slider like in Control Point and provide an option to protect the edges.
Use case:
Imagine the main subject in focus, well defined with sharp edges, and background that requires “taming” by diminishing sharpness, (micro)contrast, or whatever (think of dirty walls, or other distracting things photos tend to amplify). In the examples I’m talking about, the AI mask “hovering method” (called ‘Add a selection’ in the manual, aka object selection) has chosen the background more or less correctly, leaving some small unselected space around the subject, as seen when the mask was chosen. However the actual mask, as seen later, spread slightly and included some parts of the subject near the edges. That works in accordance with what manual says: “No matter the selection mode, the AI mask might look rough at first in the image, but the final selection is refined once it’s applied”. In my cases it resulted in slightly blurred edges as the mask spread out too much off its initial choice. Hence I would like options like ‘Diffusion’ found in PL9 Control Point settings and something you may call ‘Edge Protection’ option, so that the diffused part of the mask does not go over the “edges”.
Similar request can be made about AI masks ‘selectivity’ but I leave it for a separate request, which someone will/did make.
