Problems when pasting corrections

macOS 14.7.6
PhotoLab 8.6.0

I copied correction settings from a photo, then pasted only Curves onto about 15 other images. Curves did indeed paste correctly, but all 15 images ended up with all sorts of things applied that I did not do myself, like various local and global adjustments.

At first I wondered whether I neglected to deselect everything but Curves when using “Paste Selected Adjustments”. This is not possible though because the corrections it added were not even present on the image I copied from. Also, if you look at the history it looks like “Paste Selected Adjustments” worked as expected. Trouble is, everything shown in the history above “Paste Selected Adjustments” are steps I did not make. All those steps just showed up on all 15 images immediately after “Paste Selected Adjustments”.

I recognize some of the history steps as ones I made to other images in the batch I was working on, so it looks like PhotoLab is copying random history data from other images and pasting it when using the “Paste Selected Adjustments” command.

This has happened to me once before.
Is it possible I did something wrong? Has anyone else noticed this?

I’ve never experienced any example of this - but, I’m using the Windows version … so it’s possible that’s the difference (?)

It’s far more likely that you had selected multiple images - and then made a number of correction settings without realising you had more than one image selected.

  • This guess is born out by the type of changes evident in your history screenshots - whereby you’re setting various tools (HSL, Tone Curve, etc) ON and OFF… which is typical of the process one uses to evaluate their impact.
  • That doesn’t disprove my suggestion - because all those changes were made after you had pasted saved corrections.

Note: We’ve all fallen for this trap - Anyone who claims otherwise hasn’t used PL for long !

Thanks, you gave me an idea and I think I’ve worked it out.

I didn’t think it was possible that I had multiple images selected because when I selected each image to see the effect of my “Paste Selected Corrections”, it would have deselected all the others… except…

I just discovered that if you have multiple images selected, using the arrow keys to select the next/previous image does not deselect the rest like it does when you click on an image. I only recently got into the habit of using the arrow keys and didn’t realize the behaviour was different. I must not have noticed all the images were still selected.

Lesson learned.

DXO should really do something about the involuntary selection of multiple image when applying changes or copying setting etc. It’s a real nuisance. It would be great to have a warning of some sorts, and an easy way to undo it.

I have noted that just above the filmstrip there is a very small notation about the number of images in the strip and the number that are selected.
