Printing through DxO using ICC profiles

Epson Print & Layout is almost identical on macOS 13 Monterey as Canon Professional Print & Layout. It’s almost like the same company wrote both programs and customised them for resale. Same layout tools, same relative and perceptual choices, along with black point compensation check boxes.

The Canon version does a great job, colour matching, if one pays attention to relative and perceptual and black point compensation on per image basis. I’ve been unable to get decent prints, printing directly from DxO PhotoLab (Canon Pro-300) in a full colour-corrected workflow.

The absence of relative/perceptual and black point compensation checkboxes seems to be the difference.

I should be clear about the good prints. They are just jpg or tiff processed by DxO PhotoLab. The same image that I try to print directly from PhotoLab are too dark and oversaturated. From Canon Professional Print & Layout, perfect without any additional retouching or hand dialed compensation. Quality does depend on paper profile quality (Canson profiles great, Ilford not good).

I’d like to see the printing module get just a bit of work to make it more sensible (DxO leans too hard on the very awkward macOS layout) and bulletproof.

I was never able to get on with the Epson print and layout program. The Windows version is a lot more basic compared to the Canon version. I have just recently upgraded my Epson XP1500 to the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 which is leagues in front of the Epson and I have only been using it for one week.

I gave up trying to print via DxO a long time ago. One of the reasons I kept Adobe going as I mainly used it just for the printing. I May now be able to give up Adobe.

It took me two days to set the printer up and calibrated it using my ColorMunki and ccStudios program . I wasn’t keen on the printer’s self calibration.

My two main papers that I use are Ilford Galerie smooth pearl and there smooth gloss and recently PermJet’s photo lustre. I have yet to try @Joanna Baryta papers, although not being interested whether other people see my pictures or not, they may never get tried.

make sure you have not installed your printer as an AirPrint printer as that will only install simplified printer options. use epson driver directly form their website rather and letting apple install printer. that should fix it
