Print Presets on Mac

How are folks handling print presets in PhotoLab for Mac?

I like to gather commonly used printing parameters such as paper size, paper type, and image size into a preset to be easily recalled as needed. In Lightroom, I’ve made a half-dozen of these and they work well.

In PhotoLab my parameters dont’ ‘stick’ between prints. I see this especailly in image size and paper size, but I suspect others. Every time I print, I have to go through all the print settings to get things right. That can’t be what’s intended.

So how are others dealing with this?

In short, don’t use PL for printing. What printer do you have?

I don’t print with PhotoLab.
I use Lightroom or - rarely - Canon’s own printing app.

!!!

I use an Epson SureColor P800.

Well, I use Canon’s Professional Print and Layout Software. But I think Epson do something similar

Yes, Epson has their Epson Print Layout software. I’ll give it a try, but it requires PhotoLab to create another file.

yes, but it helps with colors … then print and trash it…

This will depend on the image size.

Regardless of the make of printer, you should always use a pixel resolution of 240ppi. A lot of folks use 300 or 360 for Epson but this refers to dpi on the print head. In fact, the dpi should be as dense as possible to give you smoothest possible tonal graduations.

So, you are going to need to look at the pixel dimensions of your image and divide by 240 to get the maximum possible print size in inches (multiply by 2.54) for sizes in cm.

If the calculated size is bigger than the desired print size, export a TIFF directly from PL @240ppi, resizing it in the export dialog.

If the calculated size is smaller, you can try enlarging on export but, for better results, I use Topaz Photo AI, which can adjusting the sharpening at the same time.

Either way, once you have a correctly sized TIFF, pass that to your layout software for printing at 100%
