Preset file location

I recently rolled back from PL7.6 to 7.5. I pasted all my presets and lens module copies to their respective locations. Same with the the database. Things are working fine except for the presets.

In the preset window are all my presets except for a couple I created with 7.6. Those have been updated with the version number from 7.5 and they do work - but they are not visible in the main window.

I had to create a New Preset Folder for my “newer” presets. While this works the “older” presets are still visible in the main window.

I deleted the “older” presets from the window but they returned. I deleted them from the folder using Windows Explorer but they returned.

I pasted over them with the “newer” presets but the “older” ones returned.

Where are they coming from?

If the database, why is the database not being updated when I delete the presets?

The “newer” presets are working properly from within the New Preset Folder.

There are no error messages regarding a conflict.

As a side note, the database was located in my PL5 location rather than PL7. PL5 is no longer on this system. So, I created a new folder for a new database, deleted the “older” presets again and…

They are still there.

Hi Allan,

as you are on Windows check here for the standard path

Wolfgang

OK but please reread my post.

If I delete the presets at that location and they come back, where are they coming back from?

Sure, I did.

Just before I took this screenshot for you, I deleted duplicate entries from this preset folder that were (presumably) “introduced” by switching the installation process from German to English.

Then I restarted PL7 and now even rebooted, but no more duplicate entries. If they were saved to the database I think the duplicates would be back. – I hope you get help.

Normally, there is no need to copy or move things around, PhotoLab handles this automatically.

Now, as you have two folders for custom presets, you could move, in PhotoLab’s Presets tool, all your presets to one of the two folders or to an even newer third folder. Then restart PhotoLab and check if you can see all the presets you need. If this is rhe case, delete, in PhotoLab’s Presets tool, the presets and folders you want to be gone.

If the above does not work, create a ticket with support.dxo.com.

Note that a preset’s name is both the filename and noted in the preset. Use a text editor to check and correct it, should it be necessary.

Well, it did sort off and that is the problem. It has screwed up and I do not see a way of fixing it.

I have done this, both within PL and within Windows. Neither works. The files come back.

With Windows Explorer open on the Presets folder, I deleted all the “older” presets with PL and Explorer. I then emptied the Recycle Bin. Then, I restarted PL and, within seconds, all the “older” presets reappeared in the Explorer window.

So, If I just use the “older” presets, then the more recent ones are missing. I cannot get these to join the “older” ones. The only way to use them is to have them in the New Preset Folder. I then end up with two sets.

Since they reappear so fast, it looks like there is another copy somewhere. I found that as PL starts up, it checks the presets to see if they are valid. If so, they appear in the PL Preset window. If PL thinks that they are not valid, then they do not appear. This implies that a copy is stored somewhere else perhaps in the Database or the Cache. However, I deleted those and still have the problem.
