PLv8.x subtle change: Has anyone else noticed?

In one of the recent updates to PLv8 (I’m not sure which one it was), a subtle change - for the better, I contend - was made to the way that images are identified in the Image Browser …

Demonstrated here with PLv6 c/w PLv8.6

Now, with PLv8, the image file-name is displayed so that the file-type is always visiible - even when file-names are longer/wider than can fit beneath the image :white_check_mark:

Not so subtle this time - but here’s another one;

Some of the Fujifilm simulations provided in Film Pack Designer presets (available if one has a Film Pack license activated for PhotoLab) are now available only when applied to an image taken with a Fuji camera that’s specifically capable of offering the simulation provided by the preset … which, perhaps, rather defeats the purpose ?!

Nothing changed with DPL on macOS as far as I can see.
File names, when shortened, still display the file type.

This one is old news, see here:

My PL7.14 also behaves like this, but I couldn’t say whether or not PL7 has always behaved like that.

John,

After our recent private conversation, I thought about this some more. If memory serves me correctly, when this was originally implemented in FilmPack, the digital simulations were primarily intended for use as defaults for Fuji images that were originally captured using a specific simulation so that the iFuji RAF raw files would automatically display in PhotoLab using the correct in-camera simulation. The use of these simulations for other non Fuji cameras may have been an afterthought.

Is there any way of deleting these Fuji presets as they are pointless for me and distracting when I am looking at Preset possibilities?

OK. And now that treatment is replicated for the Win version of PL.

Ahh, OK … I missed it the first time around (Perhaps it was when I was away for a few weeks).

Yes, I’m not sure when it came in … I only became aware of the change recently.

Yes, easily done … You could simply delete them (or rename their .preset extension) from the folder %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\DxO\DxO Photolab X\Presets

You’d probably need to repeat this, tho, after each and every PL update.

Edit:

You’ll also need to delete/rename all .preset files in folder C:\Program Files\DxO PhotoLab X\Presets - to prevent PL repopulating your %UserProfile%~ folder every time it detects “missing” presets !

See here (courtesy of @mwsilvers) for a list of the Fujifilm simulations now available only for images from Fuji cameras that are natively capable of rendering these simulations.

And, from here (courtesy of @Joanna), is a useful clarification;

Thanks John, I will work out an efficient way to do the deletion :grinning:
