PL9 on Mac - Photolibrary: Cannot drag images to a different folder

The manual says that I can drag images from the current folder to another and this will copy and paste the images in the other folder. However, this is not working for me (and I must use the Finder).

Do others have this simple issue as well?

Is there a system setting that I am missing?

Thank you in advance, –Tim

p.s. the following is from the just download PL9 manual, and it doesn’t work for me:

“Moving or copying images On Mac
Move images from one folder to another: select them in the Image Browser, then drag and drop onto the destination folder. The images will be duplicated, so they’ll be in both the source and destination folders. You’ll need to manually delete the duplicates from the source folder. During the copy, a progress bar shows at the bottom left, under the Source Browser.“

On my Mac/Sequoia/PL9, I just dragged an image from the Image Browser window into the Documents folder in the PhotoLibrary view of my Finder. The image disappeared from the Image Browser view.

PL moved the original image from the Finder folder where it had resided and PL was displaying, into the Documents folder, which I confirmed by switching to the Finder and checking.

PL did not leave a duplicate file in the originating folder and no longer displayed the image.

BTW I never do this, I always use the Finder-only to maintain my photo organization that way I’m sure it’s canon. I’m uncomfortable with two entities moving my Finder files about.

Are you dragging the images to a folder listed under the Favorites section?

I’ve noticed that this does not always work but if I drag them to the folder listed in the disk hierarchy then it always works.

It used to work if the target folder had been selected before images were moved/copied. Haven’t tested this with PL9 though.

MacBook Pro M4 Max running Tahoe 26.2 and PL9.4.0.37

  • Click and drag moves the image.
  • Click and Opt-drag copies the image to the new folder and keeps the original.

This is to/from regular folders on the drive(s). Don’t use the “favorites” folder in PL.

I don’t do this routinely, so forget what is “expected” behavior.

Thanks everyone! @LVS hit my issue on the head as I was working in the “Favorites” section of my directory tree. When I switched to the “Folders” section, everything worked as @swmurray described.

BTW, my Folders and Favorites are identical as I create a new folder for each shooting event.

Cheers,

–Tim
