PL8 Licence changes

Looking up the new licence for PL8, I read that, although I can install Elite on three computers, I can no longer use it on more than one of those computers at the same time.

This means I and Helen can no longer work simultaneously on a project and, if we wanted to, we, presumably will have to pay for two licences and leave four installations unused, effectively doubling the price.

Have I read this correctly?

Clearly, yes - but DxO is also saying that this applies to all versions of PhotoLab:

I wonder how many people realise the implications of this?

Has anyone got access to a copy of the PL6 or PL7 licence?

Ok, but what happens if you try to run it on two computers at the same time? Does one copy get blocked from running?

DxO makes your battery heat up and explode.

Will you please try that for me so we can be sure?

The PL8 user guide says nothing new:

“The activation code lets you activate the software on 2 different computers (ESSENTIAL Edition) or on 3 different computers (ELITE Edition).”

So the licensing terms need to be looked at in depth. I don’t recall these ever allowing use on more than one computer/device simultaneously - being able to do otherwise surprises me. I’d have to try to repair or reinstall my software in order to see the license - and I"m not even sure that a repair (via the installer) would suffice.

The current EULA is here:

Its date is “Version of April 14, 2021” - so nothing has changed recently.

It clearly states, among other things, that not more than one copy of the software may be used concurrently if installed on more than one device; also, a licensed upgrade replaces any previous version of the software (a non-upgrade license purchase would not have this restriction); the Warranty Period is 90 days; warranty support is only for any version that is currently available for download through DxO…

However, it also says this:

11.1 The License of the Commercial Version of the Software will remain in effect for the duration of the copyright unless terminated in accordance with Sections 9.2(d) or 11.3.

…which I interpret as protection for us against any changes by DxO or default of responsibility.

I have 2 running together when I copy between PC and laptop and neither has exploded yet

Be carefull. The time-delay detonation mode has certainly kicked in.

Anyway, all those kind of licence are for one person only. Not several.
