PL8 Elite Complete computational requirements

Does DeepPRIME XD2s require more computational “power” than PL7 DeepPRIME XD, or a longer time interval if no increase in computational “power” is available?

Testing on my Mac hardware revealed that export times were about the same with DPL7 vs. DPL8. If you want to know how your system(s) do, I propose you get the free trial and test with your images.

“Prime” noise reducers use adaptive algorithms. This means that times also depend on image content, specifically its level of noise and detail. A new test revealed that DPL7 took 87 seconds for a few images and DPXD while the same images, customised in the same way took 36 seconds in DPL8.

The last time I did an upgrade from PL6 to PL7 was as soon as the production upgrade was available and this forum did not have posts about problems with PL7 – I had added a new body and some lenses and thus needed the latest (although I found out that PL6 also accessed the necessary modules from DxO). This time I intend to wait until the Christmas or so “sale” is posted – once the price drops, I will upgrade as it appears that PL8 will not require a new more “powerful” machine to handle the latest iteration of Prime. By the time of the “sale”, it is likely that many of the initial production release issues – if any – will be addressed. As the initial splash screen probably will not be offensive to some (unlike the first PL7 screen), that image will remain stable until PL9 is released. To the best of my knowledge, PL does not yet have anything like Topaz Gigapixel – presumably in PL9 or PL10.
