PL Elite Complete versus PureRaw, both current production

I keep getting advert email for PureRaw that seem to indicate that PureRaw is “better” than DxO PL Elite complete in terms of the final output and has “features” that are not advertised for PL Elite complete. Is this marketing or is PureRaw actually “better” than PL Elite complete?

PureRAW interprets key features of PL in a special UI and with reduced finesse.
PureRAW also serves to introduce new features that will later be implemented in PL in most cases.

I consider PureRAW to be usable as a pre-processor for Lightroom, Photoshop and other apps. And used as such, it adds DxO optical corrections and denoising to those products.

The best you can do is to test both apps. Check the requirements and plan your tests before you actually download the trials. Trial periods are 30 and 14 days respectively.

I use PL Elite complete current production as my primary workflow. Is there any specific feature for which I should install a trial PureRaw? Are the resulting correction data files from PureRaw compatible with those from PL and vice-versa?

As playtupus said, PureRaw is a preprocessor for other software like LR etc. The only feature I know of thats in PR6 and not PL9 is the automatic dust removal. Probably a feature we will see in PL10.

Have you tested the automagic dust removal? Does PR6 require a “blank” calibration image to identify imaging sensor dust? The issue with this method is that I have multiple identical (save for serial number) bodies and thus must identify with which the actual raw image file was taken. I catalog (inventory, sort) my images by date/location/subject, not actual body used. Does automatic dust removal work with all image formats, raw plus whatever?

I’m not sure how well it works, as I dont use PR only PhotoLab. Anyway, I feel confident that it will be included with PL10.

PR sensor dust removal is not based on reference captures to identify such spots. I can’ really say if spot removal is spotless, most of my camera sensors are though :wink:

I had a few shots with dust, but cleaned the sensor and trashed and redid the photos.
