PL 8.0 Compare side by side is not in sync when magnification is set via dropdown menu

This is for Windows, no Mac to check.

To reproduce:
Press ‘Side by side’ button and set magnification from the dropdown menu. Only image on the right side is resized. This behavior is seen in both ‘PhotoLibrary’ and ‘Customize’ modes.

On the other hand, online help states that

  • You can zoom in or out, and navigate in the right-hand image, independently of the reference image on the left, and vice versa.
  • However, the Fit and 1:1 mode buttons, as well as the predefined zoom values in the dropdown menu, affect both images in the same way. Navigation within the images is not synchronized.

which is inconsistent with the described behavior.

I observe the same problem. Should be reported via support.dxo.com in case DxO isn’t monitoring these bug-tagged threads.

Hopefully they intend to continue working on this feature, adding flexibility to it - such as the option for synchronized navigation in the side-by-side mode. Compare mode is fine, though - and probably more useful to me for direct comparisons when zoomed in.

Same here, so it’s a non-issue for me and I didn’t report it to DxO. Side by side comparisons seem to be mostly for training and marketing presentations. Judging from DxO staff activity, they are (quietly) watching this forum.

Isn’t one of the intended purpose of this blog?
To check what we say/think/ask?

Yes, this part of the text

is misleading.

These “predefined” zoom values work like the “manual” zoom described previously. While you can zoom in first and then click “Compare Side by Side,” I highly doubt that was the plan.

@Wlodek , @Egregius , @Wolfgang & @Ian78 Regardless of what used to be and the belief that someone is watching, particularly after a release, please report it !

DxO are under no obligation to fix something even if we report it but will, typically, provide a response, which is a lot more than we are going to get here!

So standard practice should be

Raise the issue in the forum to

  1. Confirm that what you have discovered is actually what is wrong.
  2. To acquaint/warn others of the issue discovered and any potential impact.
  3. To “enjoy” the discussion and “bask” in the adulation/indignation/downright rudeness of other forum member (delete from or add to the list as applicable).
  4. Report to DxO support
  5. Report response and progress to any the interested parties via the forum.

The current “we think they are watching and will do something” is way to informal and places no onus on DxO to do anything.

DxO want formality so we should politely and formally oblige.

PS:-

The forum is a far better way of putting together the “story” of what has been discovered, sorry if some of mine are so long (not half as sorry as I am having spent time writing them) so I use that, either formally, as here, or using a message to myself and create a pdf from the post and reference the post, as appropriate, as well as jumping through hoops with the “lack lustre” reporting system they have.
