is anybody having an issue with local adjustments? They appear too contrasty, or strong, despite adjusting chroma and luma, highlights, shadows, whatever, strange behaviour.

Which LA masking tool and which adjustments?
A couple of screenshots that show the image and the tool palette would be useful.
