I have searched and cant find anything on this issue. I have a PC and a MAC, on my PC I can toggle the local adjustment mask overlay to Black, white red or off. On my MAC I cant. I have tried SHIFT+M and also clicked on the Mask Options just below the mask type panel. Neither does anything. Is this a known bug or just me?
Welcome here to the user forum,
I am sure that is possible, though with a different keyboard shortcut than in the Windows version.

"In DxO PhotoLab 10 for macOS, you can show or hide the local adjustment mask overlay using the following shortcuts:
Shift+MorM: Toggles the visibility of the mask overlay on and off.
(Note: Depending on your exact sub-version or if you are using an AI mask tool, theMkey requires the mask panel or viewer window to have active focus. If it doesn’t respond, click once on the image or the mask layer item to re-focus).
Important Behavioral Rules in PhotoLab 10
-
Apply an adjustment first: By default, DxO PhotoLab keeps the mask overlay visible when you first create a new local adjustment. The toggle shortcut may remain unclickable or unresponsive until you make at least a minor adjustment (such as a tiny tweak to the Exposure slider).
-
UI Alternative: If the shortcut keys do not respond, hover your mouse over the specific mask layer in the Local Adjustments panel and click the Eye icon, or toggle the Show Masks checkbox located below the viewer or panel area."

( I don’t know any better for MacOS )
Its a bug - and inconsistent as well. I have been trying for ages, then i closed the app. Started editing a different image and cretaed a mask and now its working!
Beware of 2 things (It’s about PL8 - WIN version, but could be the same) :
- When no modification is applied in local adjustment, you can’t get rid of the mask overlay color (just apply 0.01 in exposure for example and then shortcut works).
- When image brower in undocked (on a second screen for example - and even on the same screen, funny config but why not), photolab gives absolutly no feedback about which window the focus is on. If focus is on image browser, shortcut do not work neither. You have to clic on photolab window to give him the focus back (no feedback GRRR !!!) and then shortcut works again.
- And maybe there are other ways to loose focus on the PL window. So try to click on PL WIndow when the problem appears, maybe this will solve this.
This lack of feedback about which window is in focus can lead to think other functionalities do not work properly when image browser is undocked (I do not remember which one, but it had me going in circles several times).
Almost all inconsistent erratic behaviors I had with photolab came from that there is no feedback to know when PL window has lost focus.
Yes, I am familiar with this “phenomenon,” and as far as I recall, it is not new (checked again with PL 10 and 8). … And yes, it can be irritating!
Move the mouse pointer into the preview window *) (when zoomed-out it can also be positioned next to the image, as long it is over the preview area; no clicking is required) and hit the < M > key (= Windows version) to toggle the mask overlay on or off.
Alternatively, you can click directly on the gizmo in the image or hover over it to toggle the corresponding mask overlay (just like in the LA window; in contrast, hovering the mouse cursor over the text displays the full mask overlay of the parent mask).
*) I didn’t check on the extended screen / 2nd monitor

I am working on a Mac and can confirm this is a bug at least in the Mac version of PL. I am struggling with this inconsistent behavior as well.
Inconsistent means something trigger it.
If it is a bug only you experiment maybe something external to photolab on your station is responsible.
Caplocks ? Keybord langage changed (shortcut can do that on window - don’t know on mac) ?
