Granted, I’m no software engineer so maybe I just don’t understand the complexities involved….BUT…… come on DXO…where’s the subfolder support??? Seems pretty basic to me to allow “Include Subfolders” when looking for your photos. Can anyone enlighten me on this issue?

I can see some issues if you want to include subfolders…
I have all my photos in a main folder with a new subfolder for each month. If I selected include subfolders, by accident or on purpose, PL would be very busy looking through each of them and making previews of 70000 photos….

Thanks for sharing that Torstein! I definitely see your point. However I would still like the option to do so. And shouldn’t the previews (once they’re made) persist after indexing?
If PL started indexing and generating previews for 70,000 photos (in main and sub folders) I’m sure you could cancel by browsing elsewhere / removing the folder or project and starting again / closing the program. I wouldn’t wait for that process to finish!
Just a few of our own experiences with file structures and management as well as searches in the structures.
I have been using DXO since Optix Pro 3.4
The photo library or file overview was enough at the beginning.
In the meantime, I have several digital cameras with well over 100,000 photos.
To date, I have not found a truly integrated management system from EBV Software which pleases me.
Only an independent image management system helped me: iMatch.
The only effort is to read the data from new photos into a database one-time.
You can create different image databases and read them into freely selectable folders from each disk.
Then you can search extremely quickly in any number of free categories, in XMP, EXIF etc. Offline data media etc are always available. There are also AI-controlled search functions, facial recognition. There are also a lot of automations. File operations and launch of any program are also possible.
Everything goes without any access to the original files.
You can connect any program to the files and call them from iMatch.
iMatch costs a little over 100€.

Have you tried Excire Foto?
IMatch is a great program. I use it and only it for everything DAM-related. I can call any program (DxO Photolab, LR, Photoshop, On1 etc) directly from IMatch. I use for example DxO Photolab only for raw developing and image editing, IMatch does everything else so much better.
I had never heard of it until you mentioned it. It does look like a great program! Only drawback I see is it’s only for Windows.
